Social Bookmarking Web 2.0 Strategies
59Social bookmarking is a way for you to save your favorite bookmarks-and pass them on to others. The more people who bookmark a particular URL in a certain period of time, the more popular that bookmark becomes-and the more people who will visit that URL. Bookmarking is the flagship of the web 2.0 movement. The basic concept behind social bookmarking is similar to Add to Favorites or Bookmarks that you are most familiar with using your web browsers like Firefox or Explorer. Social bookmarking is bait for the search engines. By posting in your blog and bookmarking on a regular basis you will attract the search engines and hopefully get your article on page one for the keyword phrase you are targeting.
Social bookmarking is a great way to make your posts public. There are various places for you to post your articles. This is a powerful tool in promoting a website. Social bookmarking is more than just a fad, but it's still young so it's probably going to change a lot over the next few years. Just like the current sites aren't too similar to the original sites developed in the mid to late ‘90s, the currently popular sites will probably be different from what we'll see in five years.
Social bookmarking gives you the ability to reach millions of users you might otherwise miss. Social bookmarking is becoming the newest and most effective way of producing quality traffic. Social Bookmarking is effectively the practice of sharing and rating links via sites like del.icio.us, digg or stumbleupon (amongst others). What happens is you create an account with one of more of these sites and post links to sites which interest you.
At any given time, a search engine can only crawl and index a portion of the web as a whole. The challenge is to determine which parts are worth crawling (as they are created) and to crawl those parts as quickly as possible. Google and other major search engines have decided to go content-centric; the more places you have your content, the more traffic you generate. Submitting your site manually with social bookmarking sites like Digg, blogthis!, orkut, and myspace will ensure a heavier volume of relevant traffic. Google assumes that when one page links to another site, it is in fact casting a vote for the other site. More votes imply more popularity of the site. This is one of the more recent examples of emerging new internet tools, sometimes called Web 2.0, which can have very useful applications. With social bookmarking you can use this tool to get people to link to your articles and therefore to increase both your search engine page ranking and your traffic. Bookmarking is good for two things: Building more inbound links to your blog and driving traffic to your blog. Both can make you money. Social Bookmarking is a strategy that needs to stay in every internet marketers and bloggers toolkit.

A good explanation of social bookmarking. Thanks.
Couldn't agree more. Social bookmarking is gripping the web at the moment and with good reason. It is a great way to generate both inbound links and traffic, and it is easy to do once you get the hang of it.
Best of wishes.

Although I have been doing some web 2.0 stuff your article explained the "why". That was one part of the puzzle that I was missing.
