How To Solve Cat Behavior Problems
68Bad Cat
Are cat behavior problems ruining your relationship with your kitty? Is she an evil cat who bites and scratches for seemingly no reason? The following tips may help turn your mean cat into a good kitty.
Rule Out Any Health Problems
If your cat's behavior has changed suddenly, you should take her to the vet for a check-up. She could be suffering from an ear infection or a toothache, or one of any number of painful conditions that can turn a nice cat into an old grouch. Cats are very adept at hiding illnesses, so don't assume that you'd notice if she was sick.
Why Do Cats Bite?
Cats normally don't bite out of fear. Unlike a dog, a cat who is scared or stressed will run away and hide, unless she's unable to escape. Be sure your cat always has a safe place where she can get away from from stressful situations, including children, other cats or kittens, or dogs or puppies.
Playful cats can be quite aggressive. We've all seen how rough cats and kittens can be when they're playing with each other. While biting and scratching are normal parts of cat behavior, you need to teach your kitten that you're not another cat. Never encourage your kitten to play aggresively with you. Attacking your hand may be cute when she's a kitten, but it's not when she's a full-grown cat.
My Cat Attacks Me For No Reason
Be alert to your cat's behavior cues. Most cats enjoy being petted, but some become overstimulated. A cat often bites because her human doesn't understand what she's trying to tell him. If your cat lays her ears back and narrows her eyes, she's probably had enough petting. If she starts lashing her tail, end the petting session right away, or she may attack you with teeth and claws.
Avoid touching your cat's belly. This is an area cats instinctively protect. Pet her behind her ears and under her chin instead.
Cat behavior problems can be solved with time and patience, along with observing your cat's behavior cues.
