Am i mentally derailed?

Sometimes always, we might be suffering from one mental illness or the other without accepting the fact that we are mentally not fit. Haven lived around some folks who later develop into full time lunatic, together with my dedication to understand the human state of being, based on the id, the ego and the superego, I have compiled this few signs that tells you that you need a psychiatric attention.

Mental illness comes in different forms and degree, this same way, their symptoms varies, but there are some common symptoms that clearly indicates that one is not mentally balanced.

Before I continue with my lesson, I would love to point out clearly here that being mentally ill does not necessarily entails going out to the public on shabby clothes, begging food and money on the streets or even dancing an invisible song being beating far away in your deep mind which no other person but you alone hears.

Mental illness can come in the form of; hatred for others or the opposite sex, strong passion to kill, hatred for food, passion to lie always, hatred to work, laziness, unnecessary desire for sex and gores etc. Having this at the back of your mind, you can now be able to evaluate your mental state with a balanced judgement without being in doubt of what exactly mental illness is.

Without blabbering about, let us go straight to our business of the day, which is the “signs you are mentally ill”. Are you wondering if you are a victim of this topic by now? No you don’t have to, relax and get the real Jake before jumping into conclusion. And please after reading this article, I want you to recommend it to your beloved friends, family members and colleagues if you truly care for them because this is a serious issue.

Before I move in to our main business, I want to ask you this simple question; have you seen a mentally ill person before? If yes, how do you feel about them? And lastly, what if you or your beloved becomes victim? This is why you must take this topic very serious and crucial. Now, let’s go to our business.

SIGNS IN ADULT

If an adult is having a mental problem, the symptoms is quite different from that observed in a teenager or kid. One of the apparent signs or symptoms of mental illness in adult include:

-Withdrawal from social activities

-Confused thinking and negative reasoning

-Continuous irritability and long-lasting sadness

-Excessive mood fluctuations (high and low)

-A significant change in eating manner and sleeping habits

-Hallucinations or what I may call delusions

-Lousiness and failures to face daily responsibilities and challenges

-Continuous thoughts of suicide and death

-Continuous drug abuse and alcohol usage

-Fear and anxiety

Should you observe any of these signs within yourself or in a loved one, please it is a clear indication of mental illness, and the earlier you seek for a psychiatric attention, the better it is.

SIGNS IN OLDER CHILDREN AND TEENS

The earliest sign of mental illness in teenagers and children is the abuse of alcohol and drug. Now let us look at the more frequent signs.

-Eating and sleeping disorder

-Continuous nightmares (bad and horrible dreams)

-Excessive complaints and feel of being cheated always

-Intense fear of gaining or loosing weight

-Denial of parental or guardian scolds

-Skipping school, pilfering, or passion to destroy things

-Strong passion to bully animals (pets) or fellow peers

-Long lasting negative moods and hatred for others

-Defying authority and advice

-Inability to cope with daily problems and challenges.

IN CHILDREN

In younger children, there own a symptom also varies, and these include:

-Low performance in school (poor grades despite academic efforts)

-Excessive anxiety and over worry

-Persistent nightmares

-Chronic disobedience and aggressiveness

-High temperaments and frequent anger

If you observe some of these signs in your child or relation, please don’t hesitate to offer help because it may one day affect you or your loved one, if such affected person resorts to violence which they always do, and this has led to the murder of many today. Therefore, don’t ignore them, render help, and consult a psychiatrist immediately for proper care. Let us join hands and make this earth a better and safer home for all!

Wow. This is quite a topic to take on for a Hub. It's interesting how mental illness can develop rather than be solely something one is born with.

Hmm interesting, wondering if fear and anxiety count as mental illness while you are waiting for your husband of two years was diagnosed to die from a heart infection? I also deal with his bi-polar moods that were diagnosed after our marriage and he refuses to take the lithium prescribed. They tried to do this to me after becoming scared and using anything he can make up to leave the hospital (all lies about our marriage)...when it seems if any of you who sincerely loves your spouse would feel the same way?? The thing I realize is that this is unhealthy for me, but I love him just the same.

Hello dear Sara, please i am very sorry that i responded very late, its just that i am too busy with projects at hand, but all the same, you can visit this website for a comprehensives understanding of what OCD and other mental illness is all about, and how to diagnose them. http://mentalhealth.about.com/od/ocd/ObsessiveComp

Note:

resent research has proven that almost 75% of highly intellectual persons in the world, have some traces of mental illness but that is not health harmful, therefore consider if you fall within this group.

Good luck Sara!! and thanks for reading my work.

I am a reclusive person who prefers their own company, I really like to avoid contact with others as much as I can, also I have other problems such as the tendancy to be lazy and not face responsibilities. I can be moody but mormally that occurs around my time of the month so i can't really count that one in.

Lately i have become so unmotivated and unfocused am I mentally ill??

Interesting article. As a mental health crisis worker, I come across these symptoms on a regular basis. Prevention is the key...when the symptoms appear and last longer than 3-6 months, they need to be addressed. The sooner, the better. Just because one has a tendency toward anxiety, doesn't always mean "mental illness". Learning coping skills for stressful situations is a good preventative action: deep breathing, soothing warm bath, soft music, brisk jog, physical activity, artwork, writing, visiting friends.......EVEN IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING IT.

im bi polar and a lot of those symptoms are true yes, but they dont just come out of nowhere. certain events and happenings in your daily life provoke these feelings and with a person with bi polar these feelings are probably a little more severe or whatnot i think to help out we shud try to get to the bottom of what is causing these feelings

This article doesn't make much sense, not all mentally ill people resort to violence 'as they always do', what is 'negative reasoning'? :S. If a child has nightmares, denies being scolded, or decides not to follow parents advice, that doesn't indicate mental illness. Certainly not in teenagers. Do you have a medical degree? You seem to have such a certain handle of when someone needs psychiatric attention when in fact a lot of the information in this hub is highly inaccurate.

Dear Alexd181, anyway, nothing in life is 100% guaranteed, even the life you have now, so these information you saw here, are guides to help you, still yet you have the right to consult your psychiatrist at any time. i wish you the best in all you do, and thanks for bringing out your precious time to go through my work, keep reading and keep criticizing constructively. have a wonderful day.

good on you for having a say. Anyone who tries to raise awareness is fine by me. On the contrary, I must admit I did cringe a little at the simplicity of your hub. Mental illness is not simple and although public authorities are driving the campaign to hamper stigma, I would like to see more opinion of mental illness as a social phenomena. By the symptoms you lay out, and I acknowledge these as brochure worthy facts, any person could be diagnosed as mentally ill and thus the argument is null and void.
