Tamil films are very popular - as par with Hindi films. Tamil film industry is also called Kollywood, as this is based in Kodambakkam near Chennai. The popularity of the Tamil films can be attributed to the fact that a large Tamil speaking population is spread across the globe - in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, besides India.
