Though South Carolina may not be the first place that comes to mind when
brides consider their perfect beach wedding destination, it definately has alot more than just southern charm that could make an L.A bride leave the Pacific in favor of Atlantic shores.
South Carolina has beautiful white sand beaches along its entire coastline, many entertainment and dining options, and resorts sure to fit the tightest or most extravagant budget.
Myrtle Beach is an obvious choice for those with higher budgets. It is
one of the most visited beaches on the East Coast and is the most
developed town along the Grand Strand, the 60 mile stretch of white
sand from the North Carolina border to Santee Cooper Country.
The groomsmen can relax with a round of golf at any of the more than 100 golf courses in the area while the bridal party gets some last minute items at the shops or has a little just girls fun at any of the nightclubs in the area. In the Grand Strand, there are other options as far as beaches go. Pawley's Island is a popular stop, and houses the Brookgreen Gardens, home to the world's largest sculpture garden.
The Island is more laid back than Myrtle Beach. Other popular spots include Litchfield Beach, named after a rice plantation and only 30 minutes from Myrtle Beach, and Murrell's Inlet, a gorgeous spot famous for fresh seafood and lovely marshes and wildlife.
For those wanting something a bit quieter, the Charleston area, with
its varied islands dotting the coast, may be just the thing. These
beaches are not as developed, a bit wilder, but just as lovely. Bull
Island is part of the 60,000 acre Cape Romain National Wildlife refuge,
and is accessible for day trips by ferry.
Folly Beach is closest to the city of Charleston, and is calm, boasting a "shabby chic" style. A fishing pier and lighthouse are among Folly's charms. Kiawah Island, while privately owned for the most part, does have a public beach called, appropriately, Beachwalker Park, just 21 miles from historic Charleston.
South Carolina is a beautiful place to have your special day. Remember
your wedding day forever in glorious settings, lovely South Carolina!
