I feel very happy that your eczema has been recovery. I think that the incidence of eczema, the best things is not to catch it.
I grew up in NYC and it definitely was worse for Eczema during the Winter. The hot dry air from the furnace was choking and made me itch. Finally, I came upon the idea of putting a humidifier in my bedroom. This helped a lot by putting needed moisture in the air.
Getting an elephant through the eye of a needle would have been easier than trying not to scratch.
During the summer it was hardly noticeable, although the hot steamy summer days could make you itch but nothing like the winter.
Cortisone was the only effective treatment but you could only take it as a desperate one. You would immediately start the weaning process to get off the cortisone tablets. Cortisone creams were less effective.
Our family doctor said that I would grow out of it. It took about thirty years for that to happen plus a move to California. Stress is also a big factor in bringing on an outbreak. Valium was helpful at times.
I believe that Eczema is hereditary, as many in many family including cousins had it. Apparently, from my mothers side of the family. They all didn't experience the same level of it or the same duration.
As far as allergic reaction, I tested positive for over 500 hundred different items taken in scratch tests. I even gave up chocolate for a year. It didn't seem to matter.
Dermatologists could be replaced by swinging a dead chicken around the room, they were useless other than prescribing Cortisone.
Lubriderm and blue boric acid solution were two of the mainstays in the treatment bag. The latter for those horrific infected breakouts.
I only took place in the spring, first itch, and catch you as soon as a large red, and erythema. Good itch uncomfortable.
it is a good idea for putting a humidifier in the bedroom.
Now I know that New York's winter weather is so bad.
But I do not agree that Eczema is hereditary. It Individuals with a close relationship between blood. But why a family have eczema?I think it is the same Habit at one home.
The best treatment for contact allergy is to identify and avoid the things you believe are sources.

I suffered with eczema for years when I was a kid until my twenties. I had it bad most often occuring behind my knees, armpits and inside my elbow.
For me it was caused by extreme sensitivity to the climate. When the weather changed drastically, I would break out. Ie: summer to fall and winter to spring. I had scars fro years as well.
Treatement was cortizone and will not to scratch it. Also at time I would try to keep it as dry as possible seing as though moisture was the culprit it was very painful at times.
It cleared up when I moved to a different climate with stable weather conditions. Californai as opposed to Washington where it was always wet.
