We got married two years ago and were wondering where to go for our honey moon.

Friends and family suggested umpteen places like Switzerland, America and Scotland. However, we wanted to go to a place which was clean and untouched. One of my relative suggested Sri Lanka and we liked the idea. When we reached Sri Lanka, we were amazed beyond our expectations. Clean beaches, breath taking sceneries and ancient monuments. A Sri Lanka holiday was truly a romantic idea. I could have never imagined that such a beautiful land exists between the folds of the Indian Ocean. We explored the island thoroughly and here are a few places which we explored on our Sri Lanka holiday.

Have you seen millions of butterflies in a field? The Adam’s peak in Rathnapura district has millions of multi colored butterflies and is known as the “butterfly mountain”. Adam’s peak is also revered for its spiritual significance in the history of the island nation. It’s a 7,500 feet high mountain which is a pilgrim spot for many devotees of different faiths!

We also visited the Temple of Tooth on our Sri Lanka holiday. The Temple of Tooth is situated in the City of Kandy. According to a popular legend, it is believed that this temple houses the tooth of Lord Buddha. So, you can see millions of Buddhists from different parts of the world visiting and paying their respects in this temple.

My husband loves to know about places and their history. Hence, we visited the Galle National Museum which is a great place to know the true history of the island. There are some great art displays which were awesome. We also looked at some great jewelry made of turtle shells.

Sri Lanka is not known as the land of waterfalls for nothing. We visited the Saint Claire waterfall which is one of the widest waterfalls of this island nation. If you happen to visit this place during your Sri Lanka holiday, then be sure to take a trek around the local country side. It is worth it!

If you are fond of fishing, then Negombo Beach is the place for you. We rented a villa here which was quite affordable. Our villa had a lovely swimming pool and was located next to the beach. We were amazed to see numerous churches in this part of the island nation. No wonder, this place is called “Little Rome”!

Sri Lanka is kaleidoscope of natural beauty. The natives are friendly and helpful. We held hands and walked on the moon lit beaches in the night with the waves splashing our feet. We feasted on the different varieties of fish and sea food available. Our Sri Lanka holiday was really the memorable. We met many couples like us who were on their honey moon and were enjoying themselves thoroughly. The Buddhists temples, the tropical climate, cruises and the sheer natural beauty makes Sri Lanka one of the wonders of the Indian Ocean!
