Traveling through Sri Lanka is like tasting a bit of everything in a gloriously assorted platter.

For land lubbers there's endless scope to explore the magical waterfalls, which the island's wooded interiors provide in plenty. For those who love the pleasures of a cool clime, can stroll through tea estates in the mountainous portions of the region. And if it's the golden sun-kissed beaches you are gunning for, the island's ringed with endless stretches of sands. Sri Lanka has every kind of morsel that a travel hungry traveler hungers for. Finally there's the tranquilizing whiff of Buddhist spiritualism, which this island has been propagating ever since Lord Gautam Buddha's ambassadors traveled to Sri Lanka with his holy message.

The heavens have been kind to this island, which has virtually no dearth of water in most places. Not only is Sri Lanka surrounded by water, but you travel through it and you encounter mesmerizing sights such as the Saint Claire waterfall. No nature lover can leave the country without taking a peek at the widest waterfall in the country. There are the Bambarakada waterfalls too, which is like an oasis within an oasis, where water comes pounding down a height of approximately 250 meters into a basin fringed by pine trees and thick tropical vegetation.

The Central and Southern provinces of Sri Lanka are regions where the country's tea industry has blossomed over the years to become one of the major exporters of the beverage. Sri Lanka has now started tapping the potential of tea estates for tourism purposes, making them ideal travel destinations. The cool weather combined with the pleasing green rows of and rows of manicured tea bushes can uplift you in the same way, only a splendid cup of hot tea can.

Beaches should not surprise you, when you travel to an island. But rest assured, beaches in Sri Lanka have the capacity to captivate a traveler. The expanse of beach especially the Negombo stretch and the friendliness with which Sri Lankan's treat travelers can be a pleasant shock to a first timer to the island.

Buddhism was historically one of Sri Lanka's biggest imports. But the winds of time have changed now. Sri Lanka has achieved brilliant success in marketing Buddhism to the world traveler. Sri Lanka has woken up to the potential of the rich Buddhist heritage nestled in its womb. No visit to Sri Lanka can be complete to a traveler without a trip to the Temple of the Tooth at Kandy. Legend has it that a Lord Gautam Buddha's tooth has been enshrined in the temple there. The UNESCO has declared site a World Heritage site. You can also trek to the 7000 ft tall Adam's peak, which lakhs of Sri Lankans also travel to, once a year as a spiritual pilgrimage.

There are reasons aplenty to travel to Sri Lanka. There is only need for the traveler to discover it. Not for nothing was it called the ‘Pearl of the Indian' ocean.
