A Klingon and a Romulan walk into a bar…

Sounds like the beginning of a Star Trek joke, but I kid you not. A Klingon and a Romulan walked into the bar, along with a Ferengi, and a Vulcan, not to mention a few Star Fleet officers. It’s an everyday occurrence at Quark’s Bar and Restaurant at the Las Vegas Hilton. Located just off the strip, north of the main action, but the monorail will drop you off right there. Plus Vegas is just like another planet so the theme fits in well!
People go for the experience, especially Star Trek fans, but even tourist who have accidentally wandered into this little SciFi world find themselves enjoying their stay. Admittedly I am a Trekie so I knew that I would have an enjoyable time, but my girlfriends, who I was traveling with are not what you’d consider fans. They were nice enough to indulge my dream of drinking with a Klingon and we headed to the bar on our last day in Vegas.
The Warp Core Breach Description from the Menu
"Red Alert! Order this drink and prepare to separate your saucer section! Sensors indicate Bacardi Lemon, Bacardi Light, Bacardi Spice, Bacardi 151, Razzmatazz and So Be power drink. We add pure ice crystals from the planet Exo III. You'll need more than one officer to handle this situation”
My first impression was a bit of awe. The restaurant has been designed to feel as if you are traveling on some star ship or perhaps visiting another planet. You feel as if you have just entered set out of a movie. You’re greeted by “characters” who are the most in character actors I think I’ve ever met. We sat down at the bar and ordered our first drink. My best friend and I decided to share the Warp Core Breach. It’s a fish bowl drink, built for two to share. It bubbles and steams (dry ice) in front of you and attracts quite a bit of attention from other guests. It was actually pretty yummy and we were diligently working our way through it when a Klingon approached us and called us cowards for sharing. Of course it’s the ultimate insult from a Klingon and feeling the buzz of our drink we decided to show him just how un-cowardly we were, and ordered another. This of course attracted even more attention, which brought over a Ferengi who hit on us. I must say they are direct little creatures, and they show intimacy by playing with each others ears. When he asked us to touch his ears how could I refuse??
You can order the drink in a smaller personal size too, but somehow I think that would make you even more of a target when it comes to the Klingon wrath. Fortunately, as far as Klingon's go, the few that we came across at the bar seemed like the nicest in the galaxy. Romulan Ale makes an apperance on the menu as well. It's blue, bears a strinking resemblence to windex, but the bartender swears it really is beer.
Of course it’s all in good fun, and you’ve got to be a good sport because the alien races are bound to talk to you. But if you’re game and willing to play along it can be a pretty enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.
The food is also really good which is surprising. Most places like this spend more time on their gimmick then their menu. It was a pleasant addition to our already enjoyable day. If you do plan to stay and eat I recommend taking your time with the menu. Every item has a Trek name so you’ll need to read the description. The sandwiches are great! Plus you may need some food after trying the Warp Core Breach. We were just a bit tipsy to say the least.
I know our next trip to Vegas will include at least one trip to Quark’s, if not more. Plus I need to get another Tribble, which they sell at the gift shop in two sizes. Who doesn’t love a Tribble, even if they are a bit of trouble!

Amazing. The last time I was at the Vegas Hilton it was for a poetry convention before there was a Quark's or a Star Trek exhibit - and there was lots of contruction going on behind the hotel! I need to to go bak and see this stuff!
I'll be out in Vegas next month, I'll have to see if I can find it when I'm out there. It looks like a cool place to have a few drinks and hang out.
Thanks for this. I was out at Vegas last summer and totally missed this. I'm hoping to go back sometime this spring. Hopefully, I can catch it then.
Sounds like a place for the Star Trek Fan, i will sure visit it.
At first, i admit i thought it was a joke!
