America’s favorite toy, LEGO had a humble beginning. Lego which in Danish means "let’s play" was started by Ole Kirk Christiansen. He started off constructing houses and furniture for the people of Billund in Denmark. Later, in 1932 he started making toys. The name LEGO was coined in 1934. It is fabled that only later did the LEGO group find out, to their pleasant surprise that LEGO loosely meant "I assemble" in Latin. An Apt name for interlocking plastic bricks with countless combinations. It was introduced to North America in 1962. Today approximately nineteen billion LEGO elements are produced every year. That's a whopping thirty six thousand every minute. LEGO is sold in over 130 countries.
There are scores of LEGO themes. Some of the licensed LEGO themes include LEGO star wars, LEGO Bob the builder, LEGO Batman, LEGO Spiderman, LEGO Indiana Jones and LEGO Harry Potter. The more popular original LEGO themes include bionicle, agents, castle, city, creator, Mars mission, pirates and racers. Space, castle, pirates, town are the evergreens. Every year new themes are added, and production of themes whose popularity has waned, discontinued. LEGO city is the current numero uno. Bionicles, Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones are some of the other best sellers around the world at present. LEGO sets encourage children and adults to be creative and innovative.

LEGO Incorporated the famous Star Wars saga in 1999. This best seller has hundreds of sets based on the star war series. To date there are about 182 Star War LEGO theme sets. If we include the mini sets and the ultimate collectors series sets there are more than 200. Almost all star wars characters, vehicles and ships are present in the various LEGO sets. Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Jar Jar Binks, Jedi knight, Millennium falcon, Rebel Blcckade Runner are all available in the various sets of LEGO Star Wars. The LEGO ultimate collection having highly complex designs, have a number of Star Wars product. The X-wing fighter, originally released in 1999 and re-released in 2002 is probably one of the most popular sets of the LEGO star wars series. Star wars and LEGO together have created magic and hours of fun and entertainment.
The LEGO Death Star, released in 2008 by LEGO is one of the more popular play sets of the Star Wars series. In the movie star wars episode IV: A New Hope, "death star" is a moon sized space station and a super weapon, which in a single attack is capable of destroying a planet. LEGO "death star" is built to scale and has an uncanny resemblance to the one in the movie. This play set has multiple decks and contains an array of characters, moving parts and accessories. It is sixteen inches tall and sixteen and a half inch wide and has a total of 3803 pieces. It has 25 mini-figures and droids. This includes the exclusive figures of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in Stormtrooper outfit, Death Star Droid, Phlutdroid, Assassin Droid, Interrogation Droid and minifigures like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Emperor Palpatine, Stormtrooper, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Mouse Droid. It features Death Star Control Room, Death Star Turbolasers, Hangar Bay, Hangar Bay Control Room, Death Star Superlaser and Weapons Bay, Detention Block, meeting room etc. LEGO death star is one of the most intricately designed star wars sets. It is fun to assemble and great for display.
