How to clean your above ground pool
63How to clean your pool
As I promised in my previous hub, I am going to give you some steps that I have used to clean my pool.
Step one, it is always best to stay on top of this and never let your pool get to dirty. If you do a little maintenance everyday, you will find it a lot easier to keep your pool clean.
These instructions will be a little different depending on how big your above ground pool actually is. My swimming pool is 24feet by 4feet 4inches. It can hold up to 9000 gallons of water which is a lot.
With a smaller pool you might be able to dump the water out and refill each each time you want to swim. With a larger pool that is a lot harder to do.
Each morning I go out and take my net that came with the pool and skim out all of the bugs, leaves and trash. This is a gross job, but somebody has to do it.
The next thing that I do is empty the bug filter that also came with the pool. Keeping these two things clean will help out tremendously.
My pool came with a vacuum which is a nice way to clean the bottom of the pool. I also like to take a scrub brush attached to a long handle and scrub the pool to break up any deposits.
The best way to make sure your pool has enough chemicals and the water is right is to buy some PH strips. This will let you know what stuff you need to add to your pool to keep it safe.
When my pool gets extra dirty I will filter out the junk and then add a shock treatment. This has chlorine and some extra stuff in it. Be sure to read the instructions on your pool on what they recommend you using.
Next I will use an algae cleaner to keep the pool from turning green. Once those are done, I will use a chemical to keep the foggy look down.
The next thing is to keep your filter clean and replace it when it is dirty. I usually replace mine about once every 10 days.
If you will follow these steps, you should have a nice clean pool.
I hope this helps you and as always, feel free to ask me any questions that you have.

I haven't entered any lately. I am working out and losing some weight and could possibly be entering another pizza contest in the future. How have you been?
I'm doing good, thanks! Summer is a great time of year. I just wish I had a swimming pool. :) ~ Steve
They are a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.

hi Shane,
I'll keep this in mind if I ever have a back yard big enough for a swimming pool. :)
I remember you wrote a hub about eating a one ton (or something like that) pizza with a friend, and then you wrote a hub that you had a close (health) call and would be entering any more pizza eating contests...
So is that true? No pizza eating contests lately?
