68why do people get so upset about ignorant stereotyping in movies and television?
I always wonder why it is people are so fast to stereotype others,segregate themselves,and be racist to others but when the shoe is on the other foot they don't like it.I think it is crazy and you should treat others the way you want to be treated,now to the subject i wonder why people get so upset about the movies that have stereotypes why not just not watch the movie?why get all upset and rowdy about it i could understand you being upset if the person was of another race or ethnicity or religion as you maybe but it is still a little crazy to me that's why it is a movie it's for entertainment not to be taken to heart,except for movies base on actual events.Noone can escape stereotypes we see them everyday in movies italians/sicilians as peasants and mafioso,blacks/african americans as thugs,dope fiends,and living in the ghetto,hispanics as thugs,dopedealers,a house full of kids in the ghetto,and so on there have been tons of movies where jewish people are depicted as christ killers but that shouldn't be used against them like it is whites held a whole race of people in slavery for centuries and they don't want anyone constantly throwing it up in their face so why should jewish people have to hear christ killer it was not the jews living now just like it wasnt the whites living now.I am a black american i choose to be called black instead of african american my preference.I see alot of italian American getting upset about the sopranos and other movies and shows that deal with the italian mafia and i see alot who glorify the mafia and claim how great it is.I can see their point of them not being stereotyped but i don't get why their so mad about the shows noone but someone who has never been around italians and just believe everything they see on tv about everybody,or someone who is ignorant or prejudice is going to say "hey since i see a few shows with Italians being in the mafia their all mafia.I didn't know what a italian American was till i got into high school and in my sophmore year my boyfriend was sicilian american and i never thought for a second he was or had any dealing with the mafia i didn't believe it even existed all i seen was a typical middle class family he had never dated a black girl till me but didn't say you must live in the ghetto,your dad sells drugs,and your brothers are gangsters cause that's what i seen in some movies about blacks.It isn't the movies and shows that make people ignorant it is the people themselves if someone is dumb enough to believe the stereotypes they see on tv about blacks I say oh well I don't care what they think I know what I am and my family has never fallen into the stereotypes.I believe that the main reason those type of movies and shows are made cause that is what sells who wants to watch a movie about a boring middle class neighborhood and nothing happens.People want to see suspense,fantasy,horror,stuff like that noone wants to watch a movie about an average middle class italian american family they want to see a Italian American movie where the mafia is killing people.Watch a middle class black family no they want to see the hood thugs running around killing eachother.Forget about typical white middle class family they want to see a serial killer or ed gein.Hispanic middle class family noway they want to see spanish harlem drug dealers .Maybe people take these movies,shows,and books the wrong way maybe noone is glorifying them their just exposing how the life really is in the mafia,the ghetto,the hood,and people see that and think that is cool and want to imitate it i and friends of mine know wannabe mafioso,gangsters,thugs,hoodlums,dopedealers it is crazy but they like the idea of being bad,being feared,some think it will get them respect some think it attracts ladies cause of the whole bad boy thing.Insome cases it does all a guy has to say is I'm a made man,i'm a dopedealer,and so on and the girls are all over them you see how people act about John gotti they had growing up gotti the show people watched it religiously.The day people in America stop glorifying gangsters and thugs will be the day their running the country or it became part of their life to be harrassed by some gangster wanting a fee to have a business in his area or some thug shooting up their home.I'm proud of my heritage and don't let the ignorant stereotypes in movies and so on bother me cause i know what i am an average boring middlesclass young lady who is black has never been in any type of trouble,start college in the fall never dealt or done drugs and so on.Ignorance never dies.
