Stimulus for What?

This fine evening in what is (for now) still the freedom loving country of America, I would like to address the foolish and unnecessary spending by this un-American and naive group now ruling our great nation.

Today, jobless figures for the month of October were released. Was anybody at all surprised to see that the unemployment level is now ABOVE 10%? I must believe that the people still desperately wanting to have "hope" that this new governmental group will bring the "change" they have trumpeted for the last year is now feeling a bit uneasy. Of course, that does mean that those folks must remove their heads from the rear end of the democrat party, and PAY ATTENTION!!! After the inauguration of the exalted one back in January, the first item of business was to shove through a stimulus spending bill of $787BILLION taxpayer dollars. We were warned, lectured to, and flat-out PROMISED that if this spending package wasn't passed--like yesterday--then dire economic times awaited this country. Remember when Biden assured us that unemployment would NOT exceed ten percent if this stimulus passed. Well, the spending plan passed, and now unemployment has passed too--passed 10% that is!!!!

Am I the only one who has noticed that the spending plan benefitted the union cronies and thugs who worked so tirelessly to elect this group of capitalism-haters much more than any "Joe the plumber" types? They can't even show a close guestimate of the number of jobs created because they are too busy trying to rearrange the numbers to their benefit. WHY did that stimulus need to be passed so fast that the lawmakers didn't have the time to read it before signing it? Doesn't this sound a little bit like what they are trying to do with OUR healthcare. I want to stress OUR, because Pelosi removed language that would REQUIRE members of congress to join any plan they foist upon us. You know, it is good enough for us stupid American citizens, but it is NOT good enough for our ELECTED officials!!!

A couple of final points here, after the horrible waste of our money that was the stimulus plan and its lack of positive results for average Americans how can ANYONE believe a word that comes out of their mouths about money, spending, and jobs? The last six months have proven how BOLD those democrat lies truly are.

Finally, why does Barry think any plan that will spend more money that this country does not have must be passed through without even taking time to read it? He did say that discussion and opposition are American--he said that during the campaign--but he has already been proven a liar, so I must assume that was another of his lies. However, while ALL taxpayer money and money borrowed from China should be immediately spent to benefit ACORN and SEIU, BO needs to spend TWO MONTHS deciding whether or not to listen to the General HE chose and give him what he needs to win in Afghanistan. Don't forget, though, Barry did say the war was not a football game and he was not interested in winning!!! This man is an arrogant, self-centered, self-serving inexperienced sorry ass excuse for a leader!!!

You need to go back and review your economics 101 notes! Nearly all economists supported the need for the stimulus package, except for those who thought it should have been bigger. Now many say we need a second stimulus fund if we are to avoid a ten-year siege until employment returns to normal levels.

Dear Sheri,

Fantastic hub. Personally, I don't think you need to review anything. The stimulus bill was an ill advised rush to action that accomplished zilch. It did give certain privileged parties what they wanted, but it left the American people in the dust. I love the passion of your words. Wonderful hub. I am as outraged as you.

Sheri,

The only thing the stimulus bill and the other acts of hubris this administration and the lefties in congress have stimulated is anger. The anger is the real result of people in this GREAT COUNTRY who still believe in the principals of THE FOUNDERS. We know our CONSTITUTION IS IN DANGER.

We are willing to fight to protect THE CONSTITUTION from the left wing nut jobs.

breakfastpop & Tom, You both also need to study up on economics.

Ralph,

You need to study up on American History. Not the history of the USSR.

Tax and spend did NOT work during the Great Depression. The only thing that ended the Great Depression was WWII. Then the Eisenhower administration lowered tax rates.

When a government is large enough to give you anything, it is also large enough to take anything. T. Jefferson.

Ralph - just where do think the government is going to get the money to repay the loans. Far as I am concerned, anyone who truly supports the economic aids handed out need to go back to economics kindergarten.

To artificially prop up a business that no long meets supply and demand in a balanced way is throwing money down a well.

When we point a finger at Government to do anything for us other than "Govern" - pay attention, "Three fingers will be pointing back at you."

We need to Pioneer a New Economy!

Good points Sheri.

Ralph needs to take chill pill, and put down Mao's little red book I think ;)

Capitalism is what some of us call an economic system. A harsh one for companies and industries that make bad decisions and bad investments. Companies die off all the time, it's natural for capitalism. But this type of economics Ralph speaks of is something different. It's an economics where the government props up companies, even entire industries. Ultimately replacing board members, taking ownership of banks, insurance companies, car companies and so forth.

This kind of economics comes under a different name; Socialism. Now in the US, the health care industry is squarely in the governments sights. (Which looks like it will be followed by the energy industry)

And so, regardless of the assertion that "all economists" were saying a stimulus package needed to be done, what actually "was done" (and how it was done) is something very different than many of us expected, and that's Sheri's very well detailed point.

I ain't none too happy about what was actually done either (nor about how).

MNichopolos, you are dead wrong. The economics behind the stimulus package has nothing to do with socialism. It's the economics taught on nearly every campus in the country (except Hillsdale and Bob Jones University and the like) and in other countries as well.

The money for the stimulus was borrowed through the sale of government bonds. Once there's light at the end of the recession tunnel and business and employment begins to pick up tax revenues will increase and that will be the time to balance the budget through tax increases and expenditure reductions. Much more tax revenues for the government and wages and profits would be lost than the stim package if the country had been allowed to go into a deeper and longer recession. The revenue lost during a recession or depression when people and factories remain idle would be gone forever, never to be regained.

wow. We couldn't disagree more, on practically every point.

Perhaps you really do think that spending all of that taxpayer money on "union cronies and thugs", and "spent to benefit ACORN and SEIU" is what all the economists were thinking. I really don't think that is what is taught at nearly every campus in the country, either.

It sure doesn't sound like you're getting Sheri's point (did you read the hub?).

This is a great article! The Stimulus Package was largely stealing from taxpayers to create more union members, i.e., voters for democrats dependent on the public trough. The jobs that were created had a cost of $300,000 each. Excellent work!

it's not at all true that all economists supported this deficit spending. In fact, Japan's recent history of the "lost decade" due to its deficit spending cost japan. So, there werre plenty of reliable economists, but no one was listening. It was like the global climate scientists, who just pick and chose their data to support their hypothesis. Backward thinking the whole way.
