I woke up in an annoying morning with my neighbour next door yelling his dog is diagnosed with diabetes! This sounds ridiculous at first, but looking at Uncle Fatty’s gigantic body and his daily meal consumption which can easily make you lose your appetite for the next few days, I would have being sarcastic with him- like owner like dog.

Alright, I’m just making a hypothesis here after reading tonnes of articles on diabetes. After all, this is supposed to be an easy-read piece. However, I do not joke about dog being diagnosed with diabetes. In fact, there is no difference in the diabetes diagnosed in human beings and dogs.

All I’m trying to say here is, if you do not know the symptoms of diabetes, just forget about protecting your loved ones from it. Just read on, and you will find my good intention in making such crudity.

If Uncle Fatty really exists, I will knock his head for repaying the faithful creature with his so-called kindness by feeding the dog whatever he is having. Know your diet. Like Uncle Fatty, your routine might have upset your health. Let’s start with the basic stuff. Diabetes is a condition where the sugar (glucose) level is abnormally high in the blood and it is caused by little or insufficient insulin in the body.

You may ask how it happens. It is caused by the insulin and body glucose in our bodies. Most of the food we consume will be broken down into glucose, a type of sugar in our digestive systems. This sugar is used by our body cells for growth and energy building. In order to let the glucose to enter into the cells, we need insulin. Insulin, produced in pancreas, is a hormone that helps in the digestion system. Diabetes patients have problems to get glucose getting into their cells when they are lacking of insulin because it is either of the damaged pancreas or resistance to insulin action.

Note: Diabetes is a CHRONIC disease with no known cure. It can lead to premature DEATH if left untreated.

I’m not using the same old tactics to get you to the lab. Don’t you think that you and I should at least know about the symptoms? Common symptoms are frequent urination, excessive thirst, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss, increased fatigue, irritability and blurry vision. Remember Uncle Fatty, even though he’s just an imaginary friend of mine here but in fact, his situation is real. Diabetes can be controlled with diet, exercise and moderate medication. Persons who suffer from diabetes have to keep track on their sugar levels during the treatment process to avoid other serious side effects that can come along with other disease. Some serious complications that are associated with diabetes are heart disease and stroke, hypertension, blindness, kidney disease and blindness, just to name a few. Believe or not, blindness due to diabetes is the number one preventable disease in the United Sates?

What You Need To Know About Diabetes

If I had raised your concern on this potential deadly disease, please read on and you will find out some useful tips to prevent or reduce the consequences. And again, I would like to emphasize on diet, diet and diet. People with diabetes should seriously look into their daily meal consumption. A recommended diet by doctors will be a diet that is low on fat especially saturated and trans fat. Moderation is important in sweets, sugar and salt intake. What do I mean by moderation here? Cake, ice-cream and candy in little amount is acceptable. However, think before you consumer them. You will have to evaluate your meal plan to make sure this will not increase your blood sugar level. Whole grain foods, vegetables and fruits are the perfect food combo for diabetes patients.

When Uncle Fatty is first diagnosed with diabetes, he reduces his daily meal consumption by sharing it with his dog. At the end, both of them are diagnosed with the same disease. This is my example of cause and effect without the proper care and mediation. Regardless the type of diabetes, once you are being diagnosed with this illness, you have to work with your physician to develop a diet plan and proper treatment which may include insulin injection, oral medication or other kinds of treatment.

I’m going to emphasize on diet again on both of the treatment methods. In insulin dependent diabetes, insulin is being injected into the body to help to regulating your blood sugar. To keep your blood sugar at normal level, you need to have proper diet and exercise. The other type of diabetes patients may have to control the disease with oral medication with proper diet and constant monitor to ensure the insulin injected to the body produce enough cells in the body.

Diabetes is a disease without known cure. Prevention is better than cure. However, if you’re now in Uncle Fatty’s position, I’m sorry but you might want to look into long term care by getting help from nutritionist to manage your diet and a good eye doctor to prevent complication that may cause blindness.

This article may not be informative and detailed enough. Moreover, most online articles can only serve as guidelines and you should take the action to educate yourself more and keep close watch on your blood sugar level. Get help now, contact your doctor or even speak to diabetes patients who are undergoing cure. You will never walk alone…
