Sometimes you come across a foreign film and within about 2 minutes you don't even notice the subtitles. The great thing about many of these film are that they don't need to please the big hollywood studios and they don't all need to have happy endings.

Films should make you think and evaluate your perceptions watching films form foreign countries does this.

1) Cinema Paradiso (Italy 1988)

Wonderful wonderful film, still gives me a tear in my eye! If you only ever watch one foreign film make it this one. It will take you on an emotional rollercoaster.

2) Le homme Du Train (France 2002)

Great french film about about a Retired school teacher and a gangster who both secretly long for each others life.

3) City of God (Brazil 2002)

Life in the Brazillian Favellas, hard and uncompromising It will leave you thinking, which every good film should do. Based on a true story the cast has many kids from the favellas.

4) Memories of murder (Korea 2003)

A korean film about a big city detective who goes to a small town to help solve a series of murders...most definatly not a hollywood style film..Came across it by accident one evening..fascinating. It is based around the real hunt for Koreas first serial killer.

5) Three colours Blue White and Red (france 1993/1994)

I was just going have one of the 3 films here but decided that that would be unfair to the director as although distinctly seperate he wan't us to view them as 1. Focucing the 3 tenets of the french republic Liberty, Equality and Fratenity

No need to say any more ..great european cinema
