Games that are based upon stories from the Bible can make some of the greatest Sunday school activities. Likewise, a deep discussion showing the relation of religion and real life is also a great activity. Sometimes using less of a lecture and more of a hands-on lesson can work wonders.
“Battle of Knowledge” is a game that can be used for little kids and for older kids by just altering some details. As preparation, you'll need to create 16 review questions. If you've been teaching the class different Bible verses you can also use those by asking students to recite them. You'll need masking tape to create a grid with 16 sections on the floor. Make sure that it's 4 sections wide and 4 sections long. Using red and black construction paper, cut out 8 circles of each color. You'll also need to provide a beanbag.
Split the class up into 2 teams. To win the game, they'll need to get 4 circles in a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Taking turns, each team will get to throw the beanbag onto a square that has no circle yet and then have the chance to answer a question. If they get the correct answer, they can put one of their circles on the section that the beanbag landed on. If the team answers incorrectly then the other team gets a chance to answer. The entire team can work together to answer the questions but everybody must have a chance to throw the beanbag. The 1st team with 4 in a row wins, if neither team gets 4 in a row then the game's a draw. This game is one of the greatest Sunday school activities because it is fun and it will help the kids remember important parts of Christianity.
Sunday school activities can also pertain to real life. You'll either need a handout or you can do this verbally. Talk to the kids about the moon and ask if they believe that there are rocks up there. Ask the children if during Christmastime when there is a present with their name on it under the tree, if they believe there is something nice in it. Ask them if they believe that they have a heart inside their bodies that beats and feels. Then you'll explain: People believe that there are rocks on the moon even though we haven't personally seen the moon and we believe that our hearts are there even though we cannot see them. Although we are not able to see God with our eyes, it's important to know that he is always there. Explain to them that believing is the 1st step to salvation and then ask them if they believe. Discuss when they 1st realized that God was there and what made them have this epiphany.
It's possible to find Sunday school activities that are fun, religious and educational! Doing hands-on activities will keep the class interested and they will look forward to coming every Sunday.
