Deco Style Decadence

Once a bigger tourist draw than the Hollywood sign, Sunset Tower was on the cutting edge of style, technology and architecture when it was erected in 1929. This Art Deco giant played host to everyone from gangsters, like Benjamin "Bugsy" Seigel, to gaysters, like Truman Capote. Today, it's a premier luxury hotel for very distinguished clientele.

Though the style hasn't changed much, there have been some technological updates. Every room comes with free wireless internet, flat screen tv's and iPod stations. They haven't skimped on the extras either. Every bathroom is stocked with Kiehl's bath products and every mini bar is full of gourmet snacks.

The Spot: Tower Bar is located on the first floor of the hotel in Bugsy Seigel's old apartment. The ambience is classic, a well executed throwback to the 40's complete with entrance by maitre d' and the smooth sounds of the jazz piano. Feel the warmth of the fireplace and walnut paneled walls as your eyes search for that special cougar. Take off your wedding ring, sip a cocktail with a high class harlot, and channel your inner gangster.

The Restaurant: The Terrace offers freshly grilled seafood under a canopy of trees. Enjoy the poolside atmosphere and an incredible view of Los Angeles as you sip fine wine and enjoy a lobster roll.

T&A Rating: 6. Sunset Tower is designed with an older client in mind. It's very private and quiet even though it is located at 8358 Sunset Blvd. If I wanted my grandpa to get lucky I would put him up here.
