Anorgasmia

Anorgasmia is a condition in which, after adequate stimulation, the penis does not ejaculate. It is classified as a psychiatric disorder, though can be linked to medical conditions such as diabetic neuropathy and multiple sclerosis. Anorgasmia is far more common in females than in males, and particularly rare among younger men. In most cases, anorgasmia, or delayed ejaculation, presents in males as a condition in which the man can climax only through masturbation, not during sexual contact.

Causes

Psychological causes can arise preventing a man from orgasm. These include insufficient sleep, distraction from worry, distraction from the environment, anxiety about pleasing his partner and anxiety about relationship problems.

Physical causes also exist. One of the main causes of anorgasmia in males is adaption to a certain masturbatory technique. Acclimation to pressure, angle, frequency, and other factors in masturbation which are not equaled in sexual contact can make the experience so unfamiliar that the ability to ejaculate is reduced or eliminated.

Additionally, anorgasmia can arise from medical conditions, bot neurological and endocrinogical, or as a side effect of certain antidepressants.

Treatment

Anorgasmia should be treated in different ways depending on the severity. A condition with no ejaculation should be examined by a urologist, while a condition with no ejaculation during sexual contact may be treated by sex therapy.

If you're at all like me, the thought of going to a sex therapist and discussing your problems in the bedroom is abhorrent. Here are a few ways to handle the problem on your own:

  • If relationships are strained, work on them. One of the psychological causes of anorgasmia in males is anxiety about relationship problems.
  • Some sexologists suggest vaginal replicants like the Fleshlight to train the patient to respond to vaginal stimulation, particularly when acclimation to masturbatory technique is the root of the problem.
  • If anorgasmia is a byproduct of disease, treating the disease is essential to treating the condition. When it is the side effect of medication, consider changing medication with your doctor.
  • For many, overfrequent masturbation is the root cause of anorgasmia. Ceasing masturbation for a few days prior to a sexual encounter prevents the desensitivity of nerve endings in the penis, almost like pressing the reset button.

Different techniques and treatments work for different people, every case of anorgasmia is different. Consult a doctor if treatments are unsuccesful.

Partners

Partners of those with anorgasmia often feel frustration at their inability to bring their lover to climax. This can lead to a sexually dissatisfying relationship and promote infidelity. Since anorgasmia is related to stress, partners can aid those with the condition by not placing added pressures on them in the bedroom. The partner should:

  • be tactful and not ask whether or not the man has ejaculated.
  • create a relaxed atmosphere in which the man will feel free and enjoy sexual activity without worry of ejaculation.
  • openly discuss anxiety and fears to contribute to a better sexual relationship and normal sexual satisfaction.
