During the 1940’s, Fawcett Publications had one of the top selling comic book heroes, the original SHAZAM! Captain Marvel. Marvel’s popularity was so great that eventually an entire “Marvel Family” of characters was created, among whom was Captain Marvel Jr.

Elvis Presley was a huge fan of the Marvel family, and most notably, Captain Marvel Jr. Elvis once took a SHAZAM! comic with him to the barber, and gave the barber instructions to style his hair just like Marvel Jr. wore his in the comic. It wasn’t exactly the same, obviously, but Elvis was happy.

The short capes worn by the Marvel Family characters were also the inspiration for the short capes worn onstage by Elvis during his frequent touring in the 1970s.

Elvis’ personal motto was the phrase “Taking Care of Business In A Flash.” He had designed a specific logo for it, which was painted on the tail of his personal airplane, the Lisa Marie, and he also had the logo incorporated into a ring that he wore often. The lightning bolt insignia used for the logo was based on the lightning bolt insignia worn on the costumes of the Marvel family.

Rumor has it that Elvis’ old comic books are still stored up in the attic at Graceland. Just another bit of memorabilia worth a lot of money.
