Where are my documents?

In case of a fire or natural disaster, could you leave your home in 5 minutes with everything you need to rebuild your life? Are your personal, legal and financial documents in one place, so that you can grab them and run?

After losing 12 family members and close friends, I began to realize that I did not have the tools to deal with all of the challenges my family and I were facing. I kept notes, wrote in a journal and then realized that a list was forming! Where were my family member's legal documents? Did they have end-of-life wishes...and if they did, where were those documents?

After 911 and Hurricane Katrina, I realized that the people in the middle of those disasters were facing the same issues I was facing. They needed to provide who they were and what they owned. They needed their documents!

How do you save valuable photos, artwork, family memories?

What do my children need to have with them if we need to leave our home quickly?

You have to plan ahead and find a simple way to take your life with you as you leave your home.

Procrastination is a part of most everyone's life. In fact, the second week in March is National Procrastination Week! Since a week has been given to this tendency, we should all be releaved that everyone procrastinates.

Stop procrastinating and take small steps to plan for natural and man-made disasters and family emergencies. Then, when a disaster arises, you and your family will be prepared!

Build a survival bag for each member of the family, including your pets, and then let each family member be responsible for THEIR bag!

Make time to begin you family survival plan. There are many resources on the internet that can help you get started. If you are on Facebook, check out emergency preparedness for families groups. Check out your local emergency organizations, like CERT, the Red Cross, and Citizen Corps.

Be prepared, get organized & stop procrastinating!
