Right now you may be feeling as though you'll never get over your ex, but you will. We're here to talk about the best practices you should implement immediately and how to handle a breakup. You can do this!

Pick up the phone, call someone you're close to - parents, friends, maybe even walk next door to your neighbor. Spend time with others - don't go it alone. When people attempt to handle a breakup on their own, they at times fall too close or into deep depression. Be social, get involved with others.

Let yourself grieve as needed, but be careful to not go overboard - avoid an over-analysis of "the breakup". A brief, reasonable consideration of what may have led to the breakup is completely healthy and can give you clues to your future relationships. So, while you don't want to become swallowed up in the past, it's good to learn from our experiences and grow with them. This is in essence your path to truly surviving a breakup.

Start a new hobby or return to an old one. Exercise or play a sport. Once again, this can be part of the interaction with others, but above all, it's keeping your mind busy and putting space between you and the breakup. Before you know it, your time is filled with friends inviting you to go out with them, or you're up late hours working on a favorite hobby.

Treat yourself - this can be simple. Get your nails done, go for a mini-vacation (a day-trip to the mountains, or the beach), listen to your favorite music (keep the music upbeat), go to a movie (a funny one) - enjoy yourself!

Work on furthering your career - maybe you were hesitant to take any classes while you were dating your ex. Now is the perfect time to focus your efforts for advancement at work. Before long, instead of simply surviving a breakup, you'll actually be advancing your entire life goals! How's that for a change?

Decide to learn a new skill at home - it might even be free... Do you want to add to your cooking skills or work on your own car? Search the internet, ask for advice, start learning new things - take up new skills.

When you're feeling good about where you're at in your life following the breakup, it might be time to start seeing someone new. After you've done the things we've been talking about - you will have 1) analyzed what went wrong, 2) re-built relationships with your friends and family that may have been lacking, 3) you're healthy and happy with yourself, 4) doing well at work, 5) you've learned new things, and 6) you've taken good care of yourself. It might be just the time to start exploring what lies ahead in your future.

You're now equipped with the tools to surviving a breakup, so go out there and make it happen!
