How to Survive in the Modern Day Jewish Family [Jewish Mothers]

Jewish Mothers
Shalom. Growing up a reform jewish daughter in a very reform jewish household, I've come to experience much about the chosen people other than the Torah. More than anything, I've come to realize that the Jewish mother is seen no where else in nature except, of course, the jewish family. What does this mean? Well at all my schools, being jewish was the minority. (I will talk about Honorable jews later) And bringing non-jewish school friends over provided them with a lasting shock of "the jewish mother." This is not a negative thing, my friends and I never starved, but I suppose the question to ask is "were they really hungry?"
Let me play it out:
My friends and I enter the house, my lovely (and I do mean lovely) jewish mother appears simultaneously to not simply greet us but give us the market specials of the day. Mother may ask, are y'all hungry, but the answer is of no importance. She list every food in the house, and when the non-jews cower and appear to not be hugnry, she begs them to take something for fear of anorexia. If my friends are truly not hungry, this does not matter. After Mother has given us every item of food in our house, she pleads me to help my friends find something they like.
Let me delve deeper into this, psychologically. Jews=food. There. This explains why many Jewish women are hefty around the hips, busty around the bosoms, and probably wear clothes that hang down over their knees and elbows. (No, that has nothing to do with body image actually, it has to do with one's beliefs) Yet, food is so integrated into Jewish life that an event such as a wedding, Bar/Bat mitzvah, even Yom Kipper, is planned completely around the food. The entire day we fast for the new year, we think not of our sins, but of the matzo ball soup, bagels and lox, and koogle for dinner.
This explains why many jewish people starve when going to events of any other religion. Except perhaps maybe Italian or another food based cultural-religion.
Back to the Jewish Mother. I have never starved. I will most likely survive the 2012 apocalypse. Would I trade my jewish mother, no. Will my friends need a couple pepto-bismols, yes.

Hola, chica! I was hilariously pleased to come across your hubpages blog (after your posting such on FB). You have obviously come across one of the most successful tools of writing: know the humor, love the humor, be the humor. And you do it so well. Mrs. Hankins would be proud :) I love the insight into the Jewish life (esp. the Jew-fro). Keep it up! Can't wait to read more. (Also, whether you may or may not already be familiar with it, your writing style reminds me a great deal of dooce.com. If you aren't familiar, check it out. She has literally become famous for her success via her very funny personal blog.)
