People who may be suffering from depression or manic disorders actually exhibit or show each and every kind of symptom of depression that doctors will tell you that depressed people have. Missing the symptoms of depression is especially easy for the person both suffering the condition and those closest to them as well.

The symptoms of depression are all very noticeable if you know what to look for. Fortunately, it is not required that they suffer with all of the symptoms of depression before you decide to get them some professional help.

An early indication that a person may be suffering from depression is a continual sadness for what appears to be no apparent reason and a disinterest in life generally. Early signs such as these are still the best indicators of a mental health problem especially if they are noticed early.

Everyone has things they enjoy and like to do but depressed individuals lose this interest completely for no apparent reason. You will also find they have negative feelings and thoughts on every subject and cannot see the good in anything, expecting everything to go wrong.

Self-guilt can also be combined with lethargy and a feeling of low self esteem to highlight the plight of the depressed individual. We all deserve to be happy but people who have symptoms of depression do not feel this way and believe that they deserve to be unhappy. The signs of depression are quite clear and visible to an outsider but the person suffering from depression and low self-worth probably cannot see their situation improving.

Unfortunately it is not a good sign when something that has always made you happy, such as an interest or pastime, now fails to interest you. This is one of the clearest symptoms of depression when there is a complete lack of interest in your own favorite pastime, no longer generates a feeling of happiness in you.

Depressed individuals often complain that they have no energy to do anything although most of this can be attributed to their condition and may not be a real condition. Choosing to prefer just to mope around and not eating properly or get enough sleep, a depressed person may well be on their way not just to mental illness but poor physical health as well.

A depressed person will have trouble concentrating plus a poor memory and is indecisive which can be another tell-tale symptom of depression. You may also believe that the person with symptoms of depression is not listening and this is probably true but to make this situation worse, they may not even remember what happened the day before.

It is not always known what leads to what but erratic sleep patterns can also cause some of the more obvious physical problems of a depressed person's condition. Noticing if a person's sleep pattern is disrupted can be as easy to detect as their eating habits when they start eating far more or less than usual. If the situation has been going on for some time, the depressed person may start being preoccupied with death, especially their own as well as other physical conditions such has stomach problems, headaches for example.
