That's right! You can fix Major PC Problems With the "System Restore" feature on your PC ! Use the System Restore facility to remove any system changes that were made since the last time your computer worked correctly. System Restore does not affect your personal data such as your browsing history, favorites, mail so you won't lose changes made to any of these files.

So How does System restore work?

Windows automatically records a snapshot of your computer. And these snapshots are called restore points. Windows XP also creates restore points at the time of important system events such as when new applications or drivers are installed, or you can create and name your own restore points at any time.If you want to do some major software installments or major changes you can automatically set your own restore point at any time without worry of messing up your PC, you will have the chance to undo all these changes.

When you run System Restore, you will see a calendar displayed to help you find restore points. These restore points are highlighted in bold so if your problem happened today then pick previous highlighted days.

Before opening the System Restore console, you may want to save your work and close down all programs since System Restore requires the system to be restarted.

The two ways to access System Restore is through Help and Support which is located from yourStart menu (Bottom left of page) Click Start,  All ProgramsAccessories|  "System Tools" then "System Restore" and follow the instructions.

Creating a restore point can be useful any time you anticipate making changes to your computer that are risky or might make your computer unstable. If something goes wrong, you select the restore point you just created and Windows XP undoes any system changes made since that time.

If you have used system restore point before then you will know how valuable this feature can be, but you may not know that it can drain the amount of disc space on your hard drive each time you restore your PC. To get all this space back from your hard drive click, "start", "programs", "system tools" and click on "disc clean up" Once open, click the "more options" tab.. There you will see the options to free more disc space, by removing all but the most restore point, click OK,and then yes, now you have more disc space.

Note:system restore does not support windows 95 0r 98.
