10 reasons why you should try Tai Chi

Tai Chi has had a major impact on my life in the last 15 months or so and I believe that almost anybody could benefit from it.

  1. Tai Chi is surprisingly good exercise, firming and toning the body, and it burns more calories than you might think.

  2. Has a beneficial effect on the internal organs, to which I attribute improved metabolism and weight loss.
  3. Improves balance and posture. I sit infront of a computer all day and my lower back pain is now gone. And I have the balance of a mountain goat, (if he only had 2 legs).

  4. Improves flexibility. I was never the most supple, not even when I practiced Karate 30 years ago. Now in my 50s, I need all the help I can get to keep things moving and it seems to be working.
  5. Can be practiced at any age, by both sexes and can be adapted for the less able.
  6. Is a very convenient form of exercise. Requires no special clothing or equipment, not much space and can be easily accomodated in your daily routine.
  7. Is one of the most effective martial arts, though it requires longer practice than most to achieve this. But it's also less painful.
  8. Pyschologically, the boost to self esteem and confidence comes long before the fighting ability.
  9. Practice has a soothing, stress relieving quality that is a perfect antidote to the pace we live at these days.
  10. It's fun! You meet nice people, enjoy a supportive, non competitive atmosphere and exercise with a smile on your face.

Tai Chi has so many things going for it in terms of the many things it can do for you and the way it can fit into a busy lifestyle, it has to be the ideal exercise for now. It's been great for me and I want to encourage everybody to at least try it.

It even has an artistic element that might appeal to the perfomer in you. So that's 11 reasons then.

I have just started learning Tai Chi and I really love it. It is like combining exercise for physical and mental health. I feel better than I have felt in years and I am already starting to lose weight and get into shape.
