Taking quilting courses allows you to discover creative qualities ideal for quilting

A person who takes on quilting courses is one who either decides to pursue a career as a quilter, or one who has a passion for crating and decides to take on quilting courses to develop their creativity.

Quilting, done by hand, sewing machine, or by a long-arm quilting system, is a craft that gives one a great deal of pleasure, and the joy and the prospect of creating such beautiful pieces of art is what makes one get easily bitten by the quilting bug.

The process of quilting requires a needle and some thread which you use to join two or more layers of material together, thus forming a quilt.

When you enrol for quilting courses, there are 3 basic skills that you need to know to make quilting easy for you to achieve beautiful pieces that range from a beautiful hand bag, to a warm and cosy duvet.

  • Ensure you can measure and cut accurately.
  • The ability to sew accurate 1/4" seams
  • Learn how to press with an iron using an up and down motion.

ADVANTAGES OF TAKING QUILTING COURSES

Taking quilting courses gives you a great jumpstart in learning how to quilt easily and it may be worth learning the craft as fast as is possible so you can begin to churn out your creative quilting pieces in no time.

Quilting courses will easily and quickly show you the most creative styles, the latest trends and the numerous ways in which you can produce awesome quilt works.

Basically, quilting is done with three layers: the top fabric , the batting and the backing material. Learn how, with the hand or a sewing machine - if you possess one - you pass the needle and thread through all the 3 layers and then pull the needle back up and out again. This is repeated throughout the portion of the fabric piece where quilting is planned to be.

Straight or running stitches, commonly used whilst quilting, can be for functional or for decorative purposes, and these stitches can even be made to be elaborate and striking. Quilting can be made thick, or with dense quilting, can raise one area so that another stands out.

QUILTING PATTERNS

There are variations in which the patterns of individual blocks, or the pattern created by combining the blocks is the emphasis. The whole cloth quilts typically use a single non-figural piece of fabric, and so the elaborate quilting is the emphasis. Whole cloth quilts are wonderful in emphasizing intricately detailed quilting stitches.

If you have old clothes, and you still love the designs of the print, or the texture of its fabric, you can use them to make quilt tops which are pieced together from the many smaller patches of fabric, and make patchwork quilts.

Quilting is done on bed spreads, art quilt wall hangings, clothing, and a variety of textile products.

Quilting courses are often combined with learning the art of embroidery, patchwork, and other forms of needlework.
