Natural Stone Coasters Add Beauty to Your Home or Office

Sandstone coasters can be made from various types of this natural stone. The colors of the coasters vary due to the minerals in the stone and the clay of the region. It is rare to find two of these coasters that will be identical.

You will find light yellow, grays and reds within this stone. Brownstone, which is a dark reddish color, is commonly mined in Canada and the northeastern United States, while bluestone is common in the eastern part of the US. Coasters made from this stone are usually green or blue-gray in color.

In the manufacturing process of sandstone coasters, diamond saws and equipment are used and each stone is inspected by hand before it is made into a coaster. Each one is hand polished to bring out the natural twists and swirls of the sandstone making each one a unique product you will be glad to display in a holder on your coffee table.

Sandstone coasters are the best ones to use when you want coasters that are very absorbent. The porous material is able to hold as much as ¼ cup of liquid that condenses and runs off the sides of glasses laid on them.

This liquid evaporates naturally into the air so you do not have to dump it out on a regular basis. While the sandstone is porous it is also easy to harm if you place it in the dishwasher to clean. You should never do this because the coasters are easy to clean with a simply wipe of a damp cloth.

You should use sandstone coasters under all containers when placing them on any wooden surfaces. The liquid that condenses on the outside of glasses and cups containing both hot and cold beverages will damage the surface of the table by causing a stain on the wood or breakage in laminated surfaces. Sometimes stains will occur on the coasters that will not come off with just a damp cloth. Different liquids will stain the coasters in different ways.

If you spill juice or coffee on sandstone coasters, the stain will turn the coaster to turn pinkish-brown. Once you wipe off the coaster, this stain will disappear after a while. You may think that the coaster is ruined when it doesn’t come off with the wiping. You do have to give it time and let it stand for a while to notice a difference.

You don’t have to worry about immersing sandstone beverage coasters in warm water when they contain imprinted images or scenes. During the manufacturing process, these images are placed on the stone so that they will not wash off and the ink won’t run when it gets wet. After continued use the pores in the sandstone may become clogged and you might think that they are losing their absorbency.

Cleaning the coasters will renew the absorbent properties. A fresh stain will come off right away by washing it in clear cool water. One that is more stubborn may need a light scrubbing with a sponge or soft brush. You should never use a harsh agent to scrub the surface of the coaster.

Cork backings on sandstone coasters will prevent the stone from scratching your furniture. The textured surfaces of the coasters will keep glasses and cups from sticking to them when they get wet. This reduces the chances of them sticking to the glass and then falling off, crashing to the floor or tabletop.
