How to tap into your subconscious

A guide for those trying to figure out what they are truely thinking and feeling

I consider myself a highly intuitive and aware person. I think of it as a gift I was born with naturally. Unfortunately, I have discovered that many people do not hold the hightened sense of awareness that I do.

During my life journey I have encountered all types of people who are simply out of touch with themselves: they walk around in a fog often feeling dazed and confused, sometimes this lack of self-involvement will fester as depression, and they find themselves in a deep dark rut.

I do not claim to be 100% right about my thoughts, opinions, and perceptions about what is going on in my or anyone elses subconcious but I can offer a few helpful tips that might help you reach some of those subconcious thoughts and feelings you know are there, but can't seem to reveal.

1. Make lots of lists about yourself (this will help you get to know what you are all about, what you love, what you hate, who is important to you, who you'd like to see get hit by a semi, what you think about, what you don't like, favorite foods, things people do to annoy you).

Once you start getting a sense of WHO YOU ARE, you will be more self- aware.

2. Start being selfish and steal some alone time to do mindless activities that will let you free your mind so it can wander ( take a bubble bath, go for a long walk in a quiet area, mediate, etc) this will get your thought process flowing.

3. Fall asleep thinking about something nice, a good thing that happened, someone you might like, something or someone inspiring, etc, it will set a positve tone for your dreams. Some people say they can't remember their dreams but I don't believe it. After you shut the alarm off in the morning, don't go right to the coffee pot, take that moment to say " wait a minute, what did i dream about last night? Oh yeah, this, this, and this happened". What you dream about is what your subconciously thinking most of the time. Once you start realizing what you are dreaming about, start keeping a journal and noting down what your dreams are. You might want to go to a book store and get a dream analysis book or a dream dictionary.

4. Write, write, write, write. Again, beyond making lists, keep a journal--- beyond writing about the little events that happen throughout the day, write about those random angry thoughts you have towards someone, write about that brief memory from the past that your brain tries to force into your radar, right about that deja vu feeling you've been getting.

5. Be aware of your behaviors. Often times you think and act in ways you don't realize. However, most of the time, people point this things out to you by saying " Geez, you always do this," or " i've noticed you tend to..." they may say it seriously or they may mention it briefly in a joking manner. Take the feedback you get from people seriously, write it down, think about it, and try to determine how these previously unnoticed behaviors, things said, etc might be linked to something going on in your subconcious.

6. Take care of yourself. You are the most important person you know, so, until you start spending more time with yourself, and listening yourself, it will be really hard for you to figure out whats going on in your subconcious mind.

Hi Louise,

Nice Hub here - did you know that you can make links clickable?

Just highlight the text in "edit" mode, click the "chain" icon, and paste or type the URL in the box that pops up.

Jenny, with links clickable do that mean that I can take the site http://www.selfgrowth.com/ like the above hub and have it in blue like your hub pages when you referred to the different books? Because if I wrote the above hub I would want to make that link clickable, right?

If not can you give me an example of the "chain" icon. Now I know how to do the links to add to a hub when I write one, is that the same thing?

Great Hub. Relax out and listen deeply while asking your subconcious mind to provide you with a solution / answer to your problem. Your subconcious always responds. Though sometimes the response may not be immediate.

Good advice and I totally agree on the writing it down part. I see amazing results when I can get someone to keep a journal. There is something about writing things down that brings organization and clarity to the thought process.

One additional thing I would add is to think about something and then let go. We often try to think up the answer. Time and time again it has been proven that the best ideas come when we are not thinking about a particular problem. We often get our best ideas in the shower, on the beach, driving ... in short when our mind is relaxed and not concentrating on an issue.

I totally agree with you, i feel that you can tap into your inner most thoughts by concentrating or thinking too hard, i think it comes randomly.
