Ted Failon, whose real name is Mario Teodoro Failon Etong, is a well-known Filipino broadcast journalist, TV newscaster, radio commentator, and a former congressman for his hometown Leyte Province. He has a very popular early morning radio commentary show which is co-hosted by an equally popular broadcast journalist and radio commentator Korina Sanches entitled "Tambalang Failon at Sanchez."

Ted Failon is in the middle of a suicide-parricide investigation by the Philippine National Police (PNP) resulting from the death of his wife, Trina. She was rushed to the New Era General Hospital in Quezon City with a gunshot wound in the head and died a day later of her wound.

What seemed to be a simple case of suicide is being investigated by the Quezon City Police for a possible parricide case, meaning of course that Ted Failon himself is the suspect.

First, the gun used in the shooting was Ted's gun. It was a caliber .380 pistol licensed under his name which, obviously, Trina had access to.

Second, Ted did not report the incident to the police immediately after it happened. He surreptitiously brought her bloodied wife to the hospital. It was the hospital who reported the incident to the police several hours later as they are required by law to do so.

And third and the most important one, the scene of the incident (crime?) was cleaned prior to the arrival of police investigators. The households cleaned the bathroom where they found Trina's body bathed with her own blood. The driver of the van that was used to bring Trina to the hospital also promptly cleaned the vehicle of blood stains.

Don't forget though that Ted Failon is a well-known police, and in general, a government critic. That's the reason Ted says they're getting back at him. His enemies are out to nail him for a parricide case. Police investigators, while at the middle of the investigation, were already telling reporters that Trina was shot inside a van and not inside the bathroom as claimed by Ted Failon and his households. That Ted had scratches all over his body thereby insinuating a fight ensued between the spouses prior to the shooting. They were even claiming that a suicide note found in the Failon's bedroom is not actually a suicide note but a sorry note. Indeed, it would seem they were actually trying to convict Ted Failon of parricide when in fact the investigation was on its early stages.

A few days later the Failon households, including her sister-in-law, were arrested and charged by the police with Obstruction of Justice due to the cleaning of the scene of the crime.  They were jailed and later posted bail. The preliminary investigation of the case resulted to the dropping of the Obstruction of Justice case against them. 

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) stepped into the case and subsequently made their own investigation in conjunction with PNP's investigation. After more than a month after the shooting incident, it was concluded that Trina Etong indeed committed suicide. Ted Failon was exonerated and he is already back to his regular broadcasting stints in ABS-CBN.
