It is very hard to get exact prices for teeth whitening. This is especially true of cosmetic dentistry. Different people have different degrees of staining and discoloration on their teeth which may cause them to need more or less visits to the dentist. Different procedures may also affect the cots. However, prices have gone down dramatically in the last ten years as the demand for more tooth whitening methods have expanded exponentially.

Other than cosmetic dentistry, there are a range of other at home teeth whiteners. These include products ranging from whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes to custom-made trays for your mouth. The prices on these vary as well according to the method and the brand name.

Cosmetic Dentistry

The prices of cosmetic dentistry vary depending on how many sessions you need to achieve your desired results. Expect to pay between $400 and $900 per session of whitening. Typically, three or four sessions are needed to achieve your desired effects. If you go to a specialist or well known dentist, these costs will go up as well.

One of the more popular, and expensive methods of professional bleaching of yellow teeth is chair-side bleaching. Laser teeth whitening prices are anywhere from $500 to $1000 per appointment. With the chair side bleaching the dentist uses very strong bleach in combination with a light or laser. The laser doesn’t actually whiten the tooth, it just activates the gel used in the process. The whole procedure takes about an hour and a half. A less expensive option is dentist-supervised gel, which costs between $300 and $500 an appointment. This is for teeth that aren’t as badly stained and thus don’t need the stronger gel used in chair-side bleaching. This usually still takes three or four appointments to achieve desired results however.

At Home Products

The price of teeth whitening products designed for home use can range from the price of a tube of toothpaste to over $300. This price discrepancy is due to the different methods and brand names. You have several options good options.

At the low end of the spectrum are whitening toothpastes, gums, and mouthwashes. These are usually used more to prevent your teeth from becoming yellow, especially if you’re someone who loves coffee. The amount of carbide peroxide in these products is not high enough to effectively bleach your teeth, especially if they are seriously stained.

In the middle range are white strips, such as those made by Crest and other companies. Finally, at the high end are tray based systems. These can range from $50 for a generic, one-size fits all tray to $300 for a custom made tray and products prescribed by your dentist.

At home teeth whitening kits are ideal for people who have teeth that aren’t badly stained, but they still want a whiter smile. White strips and do it at home trays won’t knock off 20 years of cigarette smoking and coffee drinking, but they will take off natural discoloration due to foods and other particles and help get you the pearly white smile you want. Many people even claim they get the same results from at home products for a cheaper price than multiple dentist appointments. However, these methods take several more applications and more time to achieve the same results that cosmetic dentistry can.  There are also several ways of whitening teeth naturally that you can use to your advantage.
