BMR VS BMI

basal metabolic rate  is  the undercurrent metabolism  and the  rate  at which we  burn  our  calories  where as  body  mass index  is the rate at  
which  we  accumulate  calories  which  converts  into fat stores.
BMR- LOW  LEADS  TO OVER WEIGHT  AND
BMR  HIGH LEADS  TO LEAN INDIVIDUAL
 
BODY MASS INDEX
Below 18.5 = Underweight
18.5 - 24.9 = Normal Weight
25 - 29.9 = Overweight
BMI of 30 or greater = Obesity
 
IS  IT AN EPIDEMIC  OF THE  MODERN SOCIETY  ?
well the answer is yes it is. one in five Americans are obese.
it results because food now is abundant and physical activity doesn't match .
added  to this  is  TELEVISION,  AND COMPUTERS  WHICH MAKE  PEOPLE SEDENTARY.

how  to calculate  your  body  mass index
 
To calculate your body mass index, follow these steps: 
  • Multiply your weight in pounds by 705

  • Then divide by your height in inches

  • Divide this by your height in inches again
What does BMI tell you? 
  • Healthy = 18.5-24.9

  • Overweight = 25.0-29.9

  • Obese = 30 or greater

  • Morbidly obese = 40 or greater

Avoid these  over the  counter drugs  and herbal supplements.

  • Ephedra - resembles amphetamine in effect and linked to more than 100 deaths

prevention of obesity

  1. step one- find out if it in your genes if so exercise from child hood
  2. step two-do you over eat? find out when and restrict
  3. step three- drink lot of warm water when you feel the urge to eat
  4. step four-eat only on the dining table not in front of TV or computer
  5. step five- avoid overeating due to depression, hopelessness, anger, boredom
  6. step six-modify lifestyle- eating levels and exercise levels should be balanced or in excess of exercise
  7. step seven-move,workout,walk,jog,swim,cycle, as a routine -pursue outdoor activities
  8. step eight-watch sports and sportsmen and engage in some form of a game
  9. step nine- exercise and build muscles-muscles burn more calories even at rest
  10. step ten-choose a healthy diet-no junk food, no artificial sweeteners, avoid alcohol and oil

After these steps dance for half an hour every day .because you would have overcome obesity.

I just don't know..I watch what I eat...I exercise...I am diabetic..so no sugar...of course I am also 68..but my weight stays the same and has for years..I may lose 10-15 lbs...and then it comes back...I have been dieting since I was 5 yrs.old ???
