the electronic babysitter and the hazards to children
76electronic babysitter is the television
hi folks,
the television was aptly named the idiot box by adults.
but the coventional use of the television worldover is - as the electronic babysitter.
babies stand to watch tv in creches, nursery and homes and end up mimicking and talking like cartoon characters.
they think that cartoon characters exists.
it is a different matter that some of us look like cartoon characters and caricatures so that they may not appreciate the difference in a strict sense.
but what worries us is that these chhildren have a stumbling deprivation of childhood, lack of games and sports .
they develop obesity and live in a fantasy world.
creativity is dampened. interpersonal relationship among children resort to tv topics and characters.
my child is very interested in sports means he loves watching a sport more for lying down idle on the couch and devouring bags of popcorn.
most of the times you might mistake a child to be special child for his gaze is fixed on the tv and he doesnt flinch his eyelid and doesnt move a limb.
already our generation is sedentary.
just imagine after the effects of this electronic babysitting the child grows up to become a computer engineer or a doctor who fits inside a nice chair.
propogation of species might suffer.
yet another favourite thing is gaming and that too on tv.
the child is short sighted with focussing defect and his knowledge revolves around the electronic baby sitter.
very convenient for all of us who run nuclear familes where both husbands and wives work.
to get over tv addiction ourselves we got to move out doors a lot.
- take a walk with the family or child as a routine
- yoga
- no couch or bed in front of tv
- restricted tv timings . say two hours to one hour a day
- create recreation rooms in homes not in the drawing room.
- select channels
- option between computer, gaming and tv
- cycling, out door sports , indoor games activities
- no chips, french friens or eatables to watch tv
- tv ads and commercials promote children to eat and overeat.
- so ban eating
- try to have a human baby sitter or allow the child to mix with children in flesh and blood.
its time we have societies banning the electronic babysitter.we have fallen prey ourselves.
television is a medium which also serves the politicians and marketing people well. because it creates mass hypnosis. an oft repeated quote gets famous and an oft watched cliche becomes a habit.
it rakes mass hysteria and brainwashes all of us into beleiving that there are aliens and weapons of mass destruction.
in order to sensationalise crude accidents, risky stunts and breached private lives and perverted norms are forced onto the viewers because there are not enough content providers.
so instead of losing out sense of balance at least now let us learn to utilise this appliance judicously only for recreation.

Baby Einstein tapes or cd's are great. classical music and great visuals for only 1/2 hour. The babies love it and so do the toddlers. another one is "I Dig Dirt" all about huge trucks and cranes and dirt... Although he children i care for are limited to t.v. when i allow them to watch (sometimes for my sake) it is good learning stuff. G-Ma :O) hugs
wow. this might be a little more effective if you used complete sentences and correct grammar. Also, parents need to stop shifting the blame onto television and music. It is not these media devices that develop children's habits and personalities, it is from their parents that they get these. Adults should realize that it is deficient parenting and lack of communication that results in "corrupted" children.
A little FYI. The little boy on the dads shoulder pic. You really should take that off becouse the kid has a medical condition that makes him like that. Do a little resurch b4 u use things like that for referances. The other pic works but some ppl are fat becouse they have other conditions.
Other then that cudos to your effort. Kids need to be outside and interact. You should think of including computers in this as they get older. And vidio games.

Cool hub tinyteddy. I have a young toddler...he watches tv sometimes when something he loves to watch is on...other than that, he is totally into boos and cars. Keep up the good work.
