Lemonade Diet
66Lemonade Diet is one of the many names of a popular body cleanse and fasting diet known as the Master Cleanse. Because lemons are the primary ingredient of the special juice fast that you undertake while on doing the cleanse, the Lemonade diet has become a popular way to refer to it.
Other names include the cayenne pepper cleanse, the maple syrup diet and, of course, it's actual name, the Master Cleanser. This is a detoxification diet that was invented in the 1940s by a doctor by the name of Stanley Burroughs. Dr. Burroughs was very interested in toxins and how they effect the body and designed this Cleanse to help rid the body of harmful toxins.
In his book on the subject, The Master Cleanser, he claims that the lemonade diet is useful for curing all kinds of diseases. One specific example he offers is of a patient of his whose stomach ulcers went away after doing the Master Cleanse.
Master Cleanse for Weight Loss and Toxin Elimination
Dr. Burroughs also promoted the Master Cleanse as a reducing diet for losing weight. And many users of the lemonade diet today use it for that very reason. Some of the most well known celebrities who have mentioned doing this body cleanse are Beyonce Knowles and Jared Leto. It looks like currently Gwyneth Paltrow is the biggest proponent of the Cleanse or at least she is doing something very similar to it.
The various toxins that the Lemonade diet is supposed to help your body get rid of include things like pesticides, hormones, chemicals such as fertilizers, heavy metals and prescription drugs. It is also designed to reduce cravings for all kinds of things that are bad for you -- like cigarettes, alcohol and junk food. In fact, if you are craving these things while doing the maple syrup diet, that is supposed to be an indication that you are "detoxing". By the time you finish the Master Cleanse Lemonade diet you should no longer be jonesing for thse types of things.
The Lemonade Diet helps eliminate mucus
One thing for which the Lemonade diet is particularly touted is help with allergies and mucus. If you have significant mucus issues, doing the Master Cleanse may help. Both lemons and cayenne pepper, key ingredients in the cleanse, help with removal of mucus. After a couple of days doing the Cleanse, you may find you are producing more mucuos than ever, but at least you are getting it out of your body.
There are three major components to the Master Cleanse. There's the Lemonade drink, the Salt Water flush and the laxative tea. They all work together. The lemonade drink is made from freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Just follow the Master Cleanse recipe to make it.
In addition to the lemonade, there's also the salt water flush and laxative tea. Both of these are designed to help expel all of the toxins and mucus and flush your whole system by making you have frequent bowel movements. Dr. Burroughs said in his book that you should actually be having about three bowel movements per day.

Many people also try and do the cayenne pepper diet for longer --- for as long as 40 days. Whether that is really healthy or not is hard to say, but I would recommend talking to your doctor before doing any kind of body cleanse for that length of time.
