Internet Content Experiment

There is a saying which most internet users and especially website owners, will have heard many times over, and that phrase is 'Content is King'.

This is an absolute truth, because without content there is no internet! Who would want to surf the web if there was nothing to see?

The trouble is the fact that we are still followers, by that I mean that we tend to visit the websites that everyone else visits. Google, YouTube, MySpace and FaceBook - these are the sites with so much public recognition that they take a huge chunk of the internet pie. Even though these sites are becoming ever more user interactive (the so-called web 2.0) we are still led to the sites and pages that they want us to see.

I wanted to see if people power (sorry, sound like an activist now) could make a real impact on the content of the internet. Yes, it's true that most of the popular content on these social networking sites comes from user ratings and views, but I wondered if we could create a swarm of content specific to one topic or category that would take these sites by storm.

The idea is to gather together a number (hopefully a large number) of social networking site users to create a massive amount of website content on a weekly basis. We'll select just one topic and then set about creating articles, blogs, hubs, lenses, information products, forum posts, videos, songs - whatever your imagination can come up with!

This website content can then be unleased over the period of a single week, on as many sites as possible, creating a surge in the content of the major sites. Our selected topic will then feature heavily on tag clouds and latest article pages, rss feeds, blogs and video feeds. In turn, visitors will follow these links to our topic related pages, secondary sites with related content, affiliate sites, product pages etc. etc. etc...

The experiment is not based around financial gain, but the internet marketing experts amogst you will realise that a successful campaign will open the floodgates for niche content websites, PLR products and articles and other information products. It is hoped that the promise of monetary reward will spur many to join the experiment, whilst others will enjoy the challenge of writing about different subjects every week.

I'm sure there are enough willing individuals to make this experiment a success, and I hope that as the project grows we will find ourselves branching off in new directions.
