the thirty day hub challenge
57I decided to join the challenge to write thirty hubs in thirty days. It was in fact a challenge. It was very time consuming and exciting at the same time. I did learn much from the experience, even though I do not think I would take on the challenge ever again. I would like to share a little of my experience.
My Personal Experience
This happens to be my thirtieth hub for the hub challenge to complete thirty hubs in thirty days. I chose this one for the last so that I could actually express what I thought about my experience.
I actually pressured myself to fulfill my obligations to complete the challenge. I had limited time during the day to write, since I had a business to run and at night I was very exhausted, yet I stayed up as late as I could to complete the challenge.
I must say that it has been a very rewarding experience. The greatest challenge I experienced was really working without the internet. The service was poor, it kept dropping several times and it was gone for several hours at a time. As a result of pursuing the hub challenge, I insisted that the company I do business with fix it once and for all. They made several trips to my home, and I can say that it paid off. I have not had any problem since Tuesday, that is three days ago, the day they last came to troubleshoot. I was able to negotiate a refund for the entire period that the service was ineffective and inefficient. My zeal to finish the hubs on time pushed me to get the service working.
I proved to myself that it could be done. There are only a few minutes left before midnight for me to complete this hub and publish it. I do intend to do just that. I would encourage anyone who has not accepted the challenge to go ahead and decide to do so. I did learn more about writing hubs, and how to utilize all that there is to write a hub.
I still do not understand what rss and code is all about. I believe I will fully understand those one day. For now, I am just glad that I did complete 30 hubs in 30 days.
I had to select topics very quickly each day, sometimes writing four hubs a day in order to keep up with the challenge. I did learn to think on my feet, since it was so difficult to find a topic sometimes. I even chose some topics, then decided that they were not for me and forgot totally about them. Topics I did not think I knew much about, I was able to write freely about. I actually found out more things about myself that I did not know about previously.
One experience I had I will never forget. I was overwhelmed and angered by what had happened at the time, but now I can laugh at it, because looking back now I think it was funny. I was trying to complete one of my hubs, so that I could move on to the next one quickly and complete them in time. In doing so I erroneously clicked on the wrong X and practically deleted all the material for that hub. I do not know if there is a way of retrieving the material once it was deleted, so I had to write the hub all over again. Talk about time wasted, but it was a learning experience. I doubt I would make the same mistake again.
In writing more hubs, I also got to meet more hubbers. I was able to read more hubs and I became fans of more hubbers. More hubbers also became my fans. I really enjoyed socializing with others through the fan clubs. I looked forward to seeing the comments that were made on my hubs as well as others.
I discovered hubbers from all parts of the world. Hubbers had so many different ways of expressing themselves. The high quality of their hubs were so impressive that I spent hours reading them. I really wish I had more time to read even more.
I had to undergo tremendous discipline to meet the challenge. I am not a quitter, and I was not planning to be one at this time. I had to learn to prioritize so that I would not neglect my responsibilities while I wrote the hubs. This challenge has basically helped me to better manage and control my time. I understand now more than ever that much of my time had been wasted in the past doing things that were not that beneficial, they were only more time consuming than anything else. Now I know how to deal with that problem more effectively.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the hubpages staff and the hubbers for affording me the opportunity to be involved with hubpages. It is one of the most satisfying experiences I have had in my entire life. I even mentioned in one of my hubs that I believe hubpages was created just for me. I would like to add though, that I not only believe that, but I believe it was definitely created for all the other hubbers and potential hubbers all over the world.
Thank you hubpages. I applaud you.

Thank you KCC Big Country. I really appreciate the encouragement. Yes, I did not realize that it was so much about me, and learning about me. Now I know. It truly has been a rewarding experience.
I was not as disciplined as you. I dropped the ball, because of my love for reading. I find that I read more than I write. You see when I see new hubs by my favorite hubbers, like you, I always stop to read and comment. I see that my love of reading outweighs my burgeoning love of writing. I have got to figure out a way to write more and read less. As usual, Good hub.
Hi fastfreta. I can tell you love reading because you are my most faithful fan. I love you so much for the interest you take in reading my hubs and the very kind comments you always leave. I think you have so much to offer in writing though. I do hope you will take up the challenge again. It is really worth it.
Congrats. I came up about 7 hubs short of the challenge, but I did learn a whole lot, and got a lot accomplished considering the circumstances.
Yes, I can identify with those benefits of accepting the challenge. I think the crucial part for me was the last day of the challenge. I had to complete five hubs on that day, and the last hub was completed two minutes before midnight. It was worth it, but I do not think I would be brave enough to do it again.
Thank you MistHaven for visiting, and for leaving your kind comments. Please come by again.
The first time I took the challenge, I only managed to complete 19 hubs because there was so much going on in my life at the time. The second time I challenged myself in the ongoing 30-30 challenge I was able to complete it with a few days to spare.
This time around, taking the challenge to pump out some hubs in time for Christmas, I am ahead of the game, so I know I have learned more each time.
It is a great way to push yourself and hone your skills, especially with all the great help out there in the forums.
Just so you know for next time, you can recover most if not all of your work when that happens. The Hub Pages program executes "background saves" all the while as you are working - that is it automatically saves versions of your work at regularly timed intervals, and these saved "versions" can be recovered If you have an accident.
There is a little blue note in in the bottom left corner of the border of each text capsule that reads "recover draft". If you accidentally click the wrong thing, just re-open the text box and click this "recover draft". It will open a list of past "versions" of your work that the Hub Pages program has saved for you. Choose the newest version, and the program will pop your text (or most of it) back into the text capsule so you can continue working. Then save it as normal ;)
I have used this a couple of times when I have clicked the wrong thing, and as well, when I was having some browser problems.
The last time I used this feature, I had gone back to answer a comment on a recently published hub and noticed a whole chunk of text had vanished. I simply went into edit mode, opened the text capsule, and clicked "recover draft". The best version available was missing the last sentence or two, but that was easily retyped.
Continued "Good Hubbing"

Thank you so much RedElf for that very important piece of information. I wish I had known it when most of my work had disappeared. However, it is better late than never. I am sure it can come in handy in the future. Thanks also for your encouragement.

What a great hub about your experience! Thank you for sharing it. That's exactly what the Hub Challenge is all about. It's about YOU learning about YOU and helping to make YOU your very best. It's amazing how we learn things about ourselves that we had no idea about going into the challenge. Good job! Keep up the great work!
