Butterfly the most beautiful and best known of all insects.  This magical insects are found everywhere in the world except for the continent of Antarctica, but the greatest number live in the tropics.  The word butterfly comes from the old English word ‘Buttorfleoge’.  The beautiful and fragile wings are actually translucent.  The sparkling scales that overlap each other give the butterfly’s wings the color that we see.  While many butterflies and moths are bright and gray, brown or monotonously spotted fragment.  Some butterflies have wings with the upper surfaces covered with bright scales and the under surfaces covered with dull brown ones.  When of these butter flies is flying it looks like a bright flower.  When it rests, it closes its wings and looks like a dead leaf.  This helps defend it from enemies.

Butterflies & Moths

Surveys say that there could be 12 to 15 thousand varieties of butterflies and 150 to 250 thousand species of moths. The major differences between butterflies and moths are: The butterflies are day flier but hardly ever at night. Most moths are flying at night. All butterflies have antennae that end in knobs while most moths are lack of the clubs at their antennae. Butterflies bodies are generally willowy and moth’s bodies are by and large heavy.

Butterflies are cold blooded so they do not fabricate heat like human beings. They have to rely on the sunlight to hoist their body heat so that they can fly. All type of butterflies has six legs and feet in which the front pair of legs remnants tucked up most of the time. A butterfly’s taste buds are in its feet! They relish the flavors by standing on their food!! , and breathing through tiny openings in their abdomens. Butterflies have normal eyesight. But not like most other insects, butterfly can see colors.

The range in size from little moths with a wing extend of less than 1/8 inch up to the owlet moth of South America and the Hercules moth of Australia with wing spreads of nearly one foot!

You may see a butterfly fluttering around in your home; you may have been butterflies basking in the sun with their colorful wings in order to get going.
