Braveheart William Wallace's Larder Ardrossan Castle

About 2 miles from where i live and about 500 yards from where i go fishing in Ardrossan the ruins of a castle stand on the aptly named Cannon hill,although to me it has always been there and i used to play there as a child i didn`t know much about it until the movie Braveheart came out,apparently William Wallace stayed at the castle for a short time and it became known as "Wallace`s Larder".

the name Wallace`s larder came from when he burned down a hamlet close to the castle to lure out an English garrison, killed them all, had all of their bodies thrown into the dungeons and left them there to rot.

It is said that the spirit of William Wallace can be seen at the castle on a stormy night and the spirit of a lady in grey and a ghost of a lone piper can be seen there too.but i have never had the pleasure of meeting any of them.

there isn`t much left of the castle these days and the ruins are crumbling and dangerous.......jimmy
