A computer is made up of input and output devices.

input: mouse keyboard cd/dvd/rom drive floppy disc drive (although the f.d.d is not common to most new computers).

output: monitor ,speakers,printer

input devices: allow us to provide the data that we want from the machine.

output devices: allow us to see or hear the data that we requested on the input data

so how do we get from putting in a command to what the screen on the monitor shows us?

In windows after your computer has started up you look at the screen and you see some pictures with writing under them,we call these icons, say you want to access the internet,you would use your mouse to click on the blue e which indicates your intentions.

when you click the mouse an electric signal is sent to the processor the processor is the heart of your computer everything works from the processor,which as it says processes your request the processor then sends a signal to your hard drive,the hard drive is the brain which stores all of the data that is in your computer, which then does a search for internet explorer when it has found it opens it upand sends another signal back to the processor which then sends a signal to the monitor that is when you see your internet. sign up page on the monitor.whilst all this is going on the memory is working to determine how much is needed for each task you undertake. this all happens in a matter of miliseconds.

this is just a quick guide to what happens it is a little more complex than this but i would rather just tell the basics rather than bore you with about 6 whole pages of it have fun .....jimmy
