SAME WORD DIFFERENT MEANING

Some of the things we say in the UK have very different meanings in the States and the misunderstanding of the language could lead to amusing situations.

If I walked into a bar in the UK and asked for 20 fags I would recieve a packet of cigarettes, I dread to think what would happen if I had asked the same question in an American bar.

here are some of the words with contrasting meanings if you can think of more please add them in the comments box.

: PANTS UK = UNDERPANTS OR KNICKERS US= TROUSERS.

: ACCELERATOR UK = GAS PEDAL US

: NUMBERPLATE UK = LICENCEPLATE US

: PECKER UK = CHIN: US = PENIS.

: PAVEMENT UK = SIDEWALK US

: PETROL UK = GAS US

: LORRY UK = TRUCK US

: KIP UK = SLEEP US

: LOLLYPOP MAN UK = CROSSING GUARD US

: TAP UK = FAUCET US

I do know some more but I cant think of them at this moment in time maybe you guys could refresh my memory.oh thought of 1 more in the US the word fanny is used instead of ass in the UK the word fanny is the front bottom of a female.

thanks for reading have fun.....jimmy

The one that always makes me laugh is "rubber" (UK) = "eraser" (US).
I found this site that explains all the words you can imagine:

Do you still "ring people up" (call them on the telephone) and "knock people up" (knock on their door to visit them?
