Overtoun Bridge

50 dogs jump off bridge in Scotland

There is a bridge in Dumbarton ,Scotland called Overtoun bridge it is a normal bridge over the river Clyde.

No one knows when it started, but since the 1970`s dogs have apparently at the rate of 1 dog a month been jumping from the bridge to their deaths, over 50 dogs have died there.

The long leap from the bridge onto the waterfalls at the Overtoun Estate almost always causes dogs immediate death. Inexplicably, some of the dogs that have actually survived, recuperated and returned to the site to jump again.

Many people believe theories such as the winds coming from Loch Lomond or a ghost, perhaps that of a lady who resided in the area, influence the dogs to jump off the bridge. Others suggest the bridge's architecture as the cause.

Paranormal experts have travelled to the site to conduct investigations, and have not found anything unusual.

The most likely explanation now seems to be the scent of mink coming up from below the bridge in combination with the solid walls of the bridge.

Whoa, that's wierd. I wonder if there is a place that has that many human suicide attempts. Is there any proof that dogs actually try and commit suicide? Or is there something else that tempts them to jump?

Jimmy - what a story. That is eerie and strange. You know there is a huge gorge here in Central Oregon and a park around it. Must be at least 400 feet to the bottom. Anyway, there are signs posted everywhere: LEAVE YOUR DOGS IN THE CAR. Too many dogs have leapt to their death there too. Maybe the ghost lady has a sister?

That is so strange. I am surprised people still walk their dogs across the bridge knowing the history! Especially the ones who have already jumped and survived...poor pups...
