Unless all countries take the current and expected future problems seriously... the future of our Mother Earth is in doubt. When I say all countries, I mean the big ones as well. Those that allow pollution to spew into our atmosphere, the old industrialised countries and the new ones like China. And the little ones like my New Zealand who have already made plans for the future!
There are droughts in Australia like never before and storms and weather disruption in the northern US and Europe. During our winter and spring we had some record weather patterns that go back to the 1930's and 40's.At least we are now getting some real summer weather at last as we have moved into February.
Industrial emissions soar into the atmosphere trapping solar energy and heating Mother Earth, and explosions in the Earh's population have occurred it has been claimed recently. A British Government report issued last week warns the world population will approach an unsustainable 10.5 billion by 2050, up from the current 6.0 million. Ninety-nine percent of that alarming increase is expected to take place in the developing world that is least equipped to cope with it.Global poverty and global warming are inter-related and directly related to population pressures. More people mean more destruction of rainforests, more demand on natural resources, more demand for water and, perhaps, more wars. But no mention of contraception amongst all these possibilities. One name will be mentioned in coming years when all these problems are mentioned - China. Already China's demands for water will be challenging for that huge society , not in forty yeasr but probably within the next five.
