Sailing boats as a leisure activity and sport, can restore India’s mammoth coastline and it could play a part providing better safety of the Indian coast.

India, however, in terms of boating, does very high proportionality between sailboats and coastline area. In contrast, most countries in Europe are saturated with 500 boats for every square kilometer. This illustrates the enormous interest Europeans have in boating. "In addition, it is a certainty that boating also improves health,” says the Yachting Association spokesman of India, Cdr. Ajay Narang, “More water-based activity would mean better security for our coast," he said.

With the recent atacks in Mumbai, that came from the sea, there would be a definite advantage to India if there were many more boaters of both professional and amateur, on the coastline, in preventing such terrorism from succeeding, just by the mere presence of the boats.

Something to think about in this day and age. Boating in India could mean a healthier, safer India.
