Recent times have seen the advent of computers at a faster pace. With the embrace of the device by the masses, PC technician is also the call of the day. This can be suitably illustrated with the help of an analogy. Imagine computers as the lifeline of the current world. Then PC technicians can be considered as the doctors who are employed to keep the lifeline healthy.

Responsibility and precise handling are the two qualities which are required for every technician in this field. This article primarily revolves with the instruments/softwares required to be kept with the technicians at all times (of course when they are at work).

The list is topped by a device which is well known as the screw-driver. Magnetic and non magnetic screw drivers are present and most of the technicians prefer the magnetic ones as it makes the handling of screws a breeze. There is a common myth that magnetic screwdrivers may tamper with the computer. The second tool in the list is the multimeter or voltmeter which is used to take voltage measurements. They are also used to test the continuity of the cables inside the computer.

Power supply testers are also being used extensively by these guys. Power supply is an important parameter as slight changes in it may cause the PC to malfunction. Cable testers are also being used in conjunction with the voltmeter. There are also specific cards which when inserted on the PCI slots will display the current status of the slot, whether it is functioning properly or not.

Several diagnostic softwares are also being employed by them to verify whether the components are in good shape. Most of them are free utilities even though several paid softwares are also available. Some of the other software tools include port testing utilities and data recovery softwares.
