List Price: $129.99

Plantronics Discovery 975

When Plantronics announced the upgrade to the Discovery 925, it was not possible to imagine that a better product could be produced. However the creative engineers at Plantronics do it again.

The main improvement is the dual microphones to take advantage of the Plantronic's latest version of AudioIQ2 DSP and WindSmart technologies, which help to cancel out background noise.

The carrying case deserves special mention, is an improved rechargeable carrying case. The new case has an LCD screen that displays battery and charge levels of the headset and case, along with current Bluetooth status.

There are just two buttons, the main multifunction button and a single volume button. Given the available space, the buttons are very small, and that would be the only drawback.

The headset’s gel earpiece design is very good and can be worn for hours on end without a hint of causing ear fatigue.

Plantronics Discovery 925

Rather than an earloop that hangs over the ear the Plantronics Discovery 925 has an earbud that fits inside the ear with surprising comfort. This device is extraordinarily comfortable for long-term wear.

Is much more comfortable to wear with eyeglasses than any other headset, it is so comfortable that sometimes you will forget that you wear it.

The sound quality is awesome, audio is crystal clear from both sides.

As soon as you turn it on, it automatically searches for available Bluetooth devices to pair with.

Has a three stages volume control and one touch button for calling and voice dialing.

Comes with an AC charger cable, an USB charger cable and a carrying case that hold a one-time charge. The device charges fully in just a couple of hours, whether via electrical current or the portable charge case.

Price: Too low to display

Plantronics Voyager 510

It really works, even if you are driving everyone can hear you clearly. It has worked superbly in all the environments in which you daily encounter noise including walking around in the city.

Is much more comfortable on the ear and stays in place while walking.

The power button is difficult to use when the headset is on the ear, but it is easy to answer and hang-up a call with just a press of the button on the side of the headset.

Comes with three different ear pieces that are each shaped differently.

It might feel a bit less secure on the ear because the grasp of the ear clip is not as strong but it can be used for long periods of time.

Plantronics Voyager Pro

Price: $84.99
List Price: $99.99

Plantronics Voyager Pro

Is the best Bluetooth headset you can find for all day chatter.

The Voyager Pro has a better audio quality of it's predesesor, the Voyager 510, and the secret is the Dual mic technology.

It's not small, but it's lightweight. The weight is distributed over the entire ear, it's more comfortable to wear for long periods of time than headsets that fit into the ear canal.

The pivoting mic boom lets you wear the headset on either ear and optimize the position of the two microphones.

The distribution of buttons has been improved. The volume can be controlled with reasonably sized buttons on top of the headset. A big power button put the device into pairing mode. The call-control button sits on the outside of the hinge attached to the boom.

The battery is long lasting, up to six hours.

Aliph Jawbone

Jawbone's Bluetooth headset is the best in noise cancellation. The noise reduction on the signal you are sending is nothing short of phenomenal. Even in really difficult situations not other headset comes close to the sound quality that Jawbone can deliver.

There are different clips and ear pieces that come with the headset, but the earloop is not good. It's difficult to put it on, and it breaks easily.

Jawbone doesn't allow you to buy just the replacement part, you have to buy their full 4-pack, which has 2 different sizes for each ear.

Very good battery life. Propriety USB charger and also a plug for an outlet so you can charge it without your computer.

Aliph Jawbone II

The Jawbone II is a follow-on product to the original Jawbone, but by no means is better than its predecessor. This sleeker and lighter version is only that.

The biggest issue is that the voice sensor must contact your cheek in order for noise suppression to work properly. It's difficult to get the earbud far enough into the ear so that the sensor is aligned properly. Some people have had good results using the Jabra EarGels - Clear. If you have beard, definitively it is not for you.

Accepting, initiating or refusing a call is far from easy to control due to the invisible non-tactile switches, so when you press on it to seat it in your ear properly, it turns off or on.

Ear loops are not flexible to fit perfectly around the ear hence it keep loosening and eventually falling off, they are made of plastic and break easily.

All the good features of the original remain: The reception is great and the noise cancellation excellent.

For something better, we'll have to wait for the next model, but if you want to give it a try...

Jawbone III - Prime
Jawbone III - Prime

Aliph Jawbone III

The Jawbone I was an innovative product, it established the standards for the noise cancellation technology.

The Jawbone II was an intention to add style and elegance to their predecessor, but it lacks in comfort and functionality.

With the new Jawbone III, Aliph wants to regain lost ground now offering a better product, the Prime, eliminating most of the problems of Jawbone II.

The Prime is light and decently comfortable. The fit to the ear canal has been improved (Plantronics Discovery ear gel like) and no ear hook is required. The ear hook can be added and it is still comfortable.

Comes with three Earbuds (small, medium, large). Once you determine which earbud fits you best, the Jawbone sensor never creeps away from the face. The new earpiece tip tilts the headset a bit more toward the cheek to help improve performance.

The Prime's buttons are large but a bit confusing. On the back of the headset an invisible button cycles through five volume levels. A larger button on the body turns the device on/off or triggers voice dialing.

At the moment, the Prime is expensive, but if you value style and compactness the Prime it's a good option.

Sony Ericsson HBH-IV835

The best feature is that it doesn't have a loop that hooks over you ear. Although with just a push it stays into the ear canal fairly well, I still would not recommend the headset for running.

The sound is fairly good on both ends with minimal noise.

Can be carried around on a strap, a clip or in your shirt pocket. The neck strap is an added advantage one can hang around and walk.

The battery life of the headset is the bad side, it is not really long life to what is expected.

It has no volume control and the buttons on the unit are too small.

Samsung WEP200
Samsung WEP200

Samsung WEP200 / WEP700

The WEP200  has echo cancellation and a comfortable earpiece. The sound quality is clear and the volumne control is easy.

As it doesn't go over the ear it's great for someone who wears glasses too.

The battery life is very good. Need to remove the earloop before you recharge the unit everytime.

This is a basic headset, no noise cancellation. Can be recommended to anyone for their basic, reliable bluetooth needs.

The WEP700 has noise cancellation, but it doesn't quite measure up to the current class leaders. Still, it's a quality headset that is easy to wear.

The volume buttons are on opposite sides of the unit and are a bit too small to handle easily.

Better ear attachment than the WEP 200 (that doesn't break).
