KCC Big Country asked about the top 10 places to see in Georgia and I just had to take up the challenge. There’s a problem though, Georgia is one of those prolific places where it’s all about taste.  There’s easily 10 places for every type of person – it’s just the lists would be different. So pick a theme and follow your interests…you’ll find your own incredible adventures but here are some of mine….

My favorite Places; Things to See & Do in Georgia (no particular order)

  1. Tybee Island - beautiful beaches, so peaceful
  2. Helen, GA - lots to do, great mountains, great cabins
  3. University of Georgia - 1st Land Grant University
  4. SAM Shortline Excursion Train Trip (Habitat for Humanity Village & other great stops)
  5. Blue Ridge Railway - mountain views
  6. Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon, GA - fun and breathtaking
  7. World of Coca-Cola and the Aquarium (okay this is two but it’ll take all day)
  8. Stone Mountain - a little history, a great picnic area
  9. Fox Theater / Atlanta - historical, beautiful, and wonderful acoustics
  10. Calloway Gardens "Fantasy In Lights" Christmas Festival (easily the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing)

Didn’t see something that struck your fancy? Try these…

  1. Rock City (a great walk for anyone!)
  2. Chickamauga - historical War Between the States site
  3. Dahlonega - beautiful mountain area, great leaf changing drives
  4. Lookout Mountain - the best hiking around and lots to do
  5. Cyclorama and the Atlanta Zoo - take a moment away from the bustle of business
  6. Underground Atlanta - party every night
  7. Wild Adventures Theme Park - okay, time for the kids (young & old)
  8. Providence Canyon State Park - great hiking and camping
  9. Savannah (St. Patty’s day they dye the river green and party for days!)
  10. CNN tour (this is for us news and TV junkies out there)

And that’s just the beginning. There have been volumes written but I promise you from first hand experience that the ones listed above are excellent choices.

If you’re in the Atlanta area though, don’t miss eating at The Varsity, it’s an experience all by itself and if you’re in Macon, don’t miss getting a hotdog at the Nu-Way downtown (on Cotton Ave), it’s the original and the best! Dahlonega has the best family meals at the Smith house and Calloway Gardens has the best Christmas dinner buffets! Bon Appetite’…

I was in Atlanta awhile back for a business trip. I liked Underground Atlanta and the World of Coca-Cola. My favorite restaurant was Dante's Down The Hatch, though I heard it's not there any more.

I read a 3-book series by Eugena Price (Lighthouse was one title) about the Georgia coast and the islands. It sounds so beautiful! I hope to visit sometime.

Great hubs! Thanks for being my fan!

Gary, glad you enjoyed your visit. Eugena was a friend of my grandmother's and quite a lady.

Cagsil - thanks for visiting, hope you get there someday.
