First things First, landing your domain name

While interior and exterior painting has it's seasons, especially during the winter months here in Denver, extra time has allowed me another hobby, hoping to capitalize on a particular market, specifically painting contractors, which is my forte for over the last 35 years. Reading a blog many months ago, spurred me into a mission, I have yet to put down, always liking a challenge, finding that perfect domain. This blog (cannot recall link) from an SEO expert, stated that 1st. having a keyword domain was the first half of the battle, getting organic traffic. Already having a google adwords account, I was able to relate, and concur, although having experience in keywords, and sponsor ads, keyword domains did not hit me until I read this article. Blog went on to say, keyword domain is nothing, unless you have content to back it all up; which I have to agree as well, making perfect sense.

In this summary, I plan to tell my secrets, landing the perfect domain, for what-ever your business endevours takes you, hoping it is as fun for you, as it has been for me.

[Wishing I knew this before starting ecopaintspecialists.com 5-6 years ago.]

You will have two browsers open, one google, and second godaddy, listed below.

Set up a google adwords account, costing $5 bucks if I remember correctly, as it's been a while. Think is a life time membership fee for that particular email address. On main page click on Adwords>Tools>Keyword Tool.

Type in google's keyword tool a term/phrase for what ever fits your fancy, then summit. Then google will give you probably many more suggestions my may have not thought of concerning this field of interest. Not only that, but to the right, google will give you searches per month for those conresponding words/phrases. Remembering the higher the number, the better! In painting for instance, 90,000 per month is pretty good. Even 20K is not too shabby.

All you have to do is copy/paste to godaddy's search bar to see if that url is taken. And don't fret if it is, as I will show you below;

You must know the dot.com's and dot.net's all get the same revelancy, and the only reason to purchase a dot.org is to either protect company name, or to show what your company is doing, either charitable or otherwise. Going back to google Keyword Tool, it was like a baby grand piano falling out of the sky, when I realized any combination of words/phrases gets the same number of searches, so painting exterior gets 90,000 searches just as exterior painting does!!! painting interior gets 120,000 searches per month, just as interior painting does!!! Once realizing this, I was gobbling up painting domains, giving me substance and a sense of satisfaction, buying some real gems.

Then getting the pick of the litter of painting domains, I thought I was through, but was certainly not the case. Once I realized through trail and error, putting a hyphen between words, I had to somewhat monopolize the painting contractor domains.Taking an hour off writing this hub, you guessed it, I just purchased a few more domains, some not really affliated with my expertise, hopefully reselling to someone else. Here is the most recent list of domains I purchased, and have yet set them to a site, so maybe a "Cash Parked Domain" in which if someone clicks on link, I will get credit for it, which I must mention is certainly not the case for the purchase. What I am not doing is listing anything here to potentially sell, as I would never refuse, if the price is right. However, my honest intention is to help anyone who is wishing for a website, to think very carefully first, when choosing the domain name, giving a great way to help determine the potential FREE organic traffic we all need to have in today's Internet business. Remember, you can change the words around, either inserting hyphen if need be, or not, in order to get that dot.com or dot.net which best describes your line of work, you'll be well on your way having a website no one can touch, dominating the industry. Wished I knew all this back 5-6 years ago, as I would have not chosen my domain name www.ecopaintspecialists.com since only people who type this in a search bar are those who either already know my site, or those seeing in a paid advertisement somewhere. I feel somewhat comforted that the phrase ecopaint is a keyword phrase being typed in currently, and I'm reaping the rewards, however the acronym eco has changed more to environmental, green, low V.O.C's (volitile odor content) than when we chose this is our company name. Eco back in the early 90's was also meant as economical, and green paints did not exist until late 90's - early 2000's. Stating all this is important, in that once you start building a history on the web with your site, you will not want to change the name of the site, or all organic search is wiped away clean as a whistle.

This evening's purchase;

Many more painting domains can be seen at the bottom at the bottom of first pages;

www.ecopaintspecialists.com ,

www.paintinginterior.net &

www.paintingexterior.net

as these are my 3 active. I'm curently having a custom website built with the help of http://www.heritagewebdesign.com/ , recently rated #1 on google, builiding custom websites. Placing most of my other painting domains there, using them as 301 re-directs which I do not intend boring anyone, listing them all here. My new custom website will be named www.paintingdenver.net having the pick of the litter painting domains, essentially owning these words/phrases on the web, at the same time building relevant content around them.
