the great indian train circus and travel tips for visitors from abroad
73train travel in india
perhaps much of you would have seen read or heard that the deccan queen and the desert queen was listed in the best trains of this year.
so do not have a mental image that all train travel will be rosy.
train in india is the soul unifier of the country next only to cricket. the railways are the best the country to manage to sustain inspite of hurdles and contunues to cater to the vast indian population.
but as a traveller from abroad you will be put off by the crowds and lack og hygiene especaillay when you want to travel economically or without a pre reservation
so here are a few tips
- always travel by atleast third AC . YOU WIL BE ASSURED OF SHEETS AND A PILLOW AND PRIVACY
- the toilets will have water and relatively clean
- the crowd will respect your privacy
- there will not be hawkers
- there will not be floating population
- your goods will not be stolen
- commonaly your shoes and chappals will be missing even in reserved compartments because there will be a small crowd who will flick them in the name of sweeping the compartment clean.
- the booking counters will be crowded
- unreserved compartments will be nauseating
- but in general the railways afford to create good timings and generally minimises cancellationas and are friendly if you book in advance
- bookings are computerised
- bookings are available on the internet also.
so book in advance enjoy a safe and pleasant journey
if you dont bookin advance it may be unpleasant for which you got to blame yourselves.

Your blog is not true for a few things. India is one of the safest places to travel. I agree with your views on 3rd AC but the photographs represent something else. You can't show the burning twin towers of New York to represent America even though they are true. Please don't take these rare photos and represent India. I'm European and I love travelling in the Sleeper class (non-AC) and that really makes my trip better.
