What Is Trauma?

Trauma may mean something different to each person. Some people who have experienced recognized forms of trauma such as abuse or war will have no doubt in finding a definition for their experiences. In the first world wars it was called 'Shell Shock'.  In the Vietnam war era it was termed 'Battle Fatigue'.  Now, the more comprehensive 'Post Traumatic Stress Disorder' or PTSD description is given.  Others, however, may struggle with finding a term to describe the hole they feel inside. Well, this could be called trauma as well.

Dr. David Berceli describes trauma as being any event, situation or circumstance that one's body could not effectively adapt to. The energy and information of this experience then becomes held vibrationally stored within the body's tissues. It is as if the body is holding it, tucked away for safe keeping, until we are ready to deal with the issue. Sadly, many of us never develop the further skills to dissipate this stored vibrational trauma and it manifests as disease processes or emotional distress.

This is one area where there is significant improvements available through this simple set of exercises that Dr. Berceli has developed. These exercises fatigue and then stretch specific muscle groups initiating what is known as a neurogenic tremor - a natural body process to dissipate trauma. Many women experience this immediately after childbirth as a way that their bodies can move to adapt to the stress of that particular event. It need not be trauma as seen as 'bad', but simply a physically and emotionally demanding process.

The exercises that Dr. Berceli developed are appropriately termed Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE). They are extremely easy to learn and can be done at home. One need only be able move and lie down. Specific props, equipment or peak physical conditioning are not requirements to performing these exercises.

I would recommend that you watch the video of his brief intro video on the YouTube screen above. If that piques your interest, go to the site listed and watch the whole 20 minute interview there. You can also see a demo of the tremoring occuring in this individual below after performing the TRE exercise protocol.
