What Exactly Is A Yeast Infection?

Yeast infections are the result of an overgrowth of Candida albicans, a type of yeast, or fungus, which is one of the organisms found naturally in a woman's vagina. This overgrowth often occurs when there is an imbalance in the acidity of the vagina or in the body's hormones. It can also be found orally - which is known as "oral thrush" which can come from sexual intercourse with a person who has a yeast infection or from medication side effects.

Womens Symptoms

• Vaginal Itching
• Vaginal Burning
• Vaginal Irritation
• Painful Urination
• Painful Sexual Intercourse

Mens Symptoms

• Most male partners of women with yeast infection do not experience any symptoms of the infection. A transient rash and burning sensation of the penis, however, have been reported after intercourse if condoms were not used. These symptoms are usually self-limiting.
