TRZ to get facelift

The construction of a state of the art new terminal adjacent to the existing one at TRICHY AIRPORT (TRZ) will be completed in two months. According to its Director, most part of the Rs.79 crore structure had been completed. The new terminal will have a total floor space of 11,800 sq m, 7000 sq m on the ground floor and the rest on the first floor. It could accommodate about 400 passengers at a time and would have two aero-bridges, three escalators and five lifts.

The ground floor would have a landscaped and open-to-sky central concourse, check-in areas, two security holds, restaurants, VIP lounges, customs and immigration desks besides a parking lot for 300 cars.

There would be a rise in air traffic once the new terminal was commissioned. Air Asia has decided to launch Trichy-Kuala Lumpur service from December 2008. Other Air Lines like Silk Airways and Air Arabia were exploring the feasibility of starting services from Trichy.
